Una is a lovable 3-year-old mixed-breed shepherd (estimated birthday 20/04/2023). She was born in Macedonia and joined us in the UK when she was 6 months old.
Una is a bright, affectionate dog with people she knows and trusts, she is incredibly loving and enjoys nothing more than a cuddle on the sofa, with the people she has built relashionships with. However she is now displaying reactivity to people that enter the family home that are not in this immediate family/ friend circle. Outside of the family home the story is different and she has shown the ability to grow new relashionships with people. The currant owners have had to make a heartbreaking decision to try and find a more appropiate home that can offer Una a quieter home enviroment and continue the work they have already started, to help Una heal these triggers she is now displaying.
Prior to starting more relashionship based way of working, Unas owners hav done a lot of standard dog training, she is highly food-motivated and particularly enjoys obedience and trick training.
Una has made huge progress since being homed with the currant owners. Although she can still be anxious in unfamiliar environments, she has grown in confidence and is learning to trust the world around her. Out on walks she loves seeing people and other dogs, and her favourite trick is sniffing out treat pouches before sitting politely in the hope of earning a snack.
Like many livestock guardian breeds, Una has strong protective instincts around her home and family. This is where she finds life most challenging. When unfamiliar people enter the house, she can become overwhelmed and will bark and lunge towards them. The owners have started to work extensively on this behaviour and have seen substantial progress, particularly through using Wolf methodologies, and the Hemene approach. This has helped strengthen connections and communication with her. However, this remains an area where she needs ongoing understanding, time, and management.
For this reason, Unas owners now believe she would thrive in a calm, predictable home with a consistent routine and relatively few visitors. She would be best suited to owners who are prepared to continue building her confidence and who understand that trust is something she develops over time rather than immediately.
Una has spent time around children without any issues, although she has never lived with them. And would find a busy family household too overwelming. Her ideal home would be a quieter environment with minimal noise triggers, where her affectionate nature, intelligence, and loyalty can truly shine.
She is a special girl who has a lot to give for the right human family .
Please friends share away or contact me directly if you think you can help or no of a potential home for Una.
