Raisins and grapes are toxic for dogs. Did you know that? So when I discovered that my westie had eaten some (an unknown quantity) that had dropped on the floor while making Christmas cake yesterday evening, I rushed her off to the emergency vet.
The vet confirmed I had done exactly the right thing, injected her to make her vomit, did a blood test to test her kidney function and checked her over.
Luckily, she had only eaten three and they came back up undigested and she seems fine today.
Less lucky for my bank account which is £390 lighter! Worth every penny though.
Please do keep an eye out for any rogue dried fruit, grapes, mince pies and Christmas cake over the festive season and if your dog has eaten some, act fast as speed is of the essence. Eating raisins can be fatal.
Of course, chocolate is poisonous for dogs too!
