Sometimes progress in dog training doesn’t seem obvious.

We expect big, obvious changes to show us that what we’re doing is working, but most of the time, baby steps are how we get to those big moments we recognise as, "I've done it!"

You may remember that little Jacko is nervous on his walks. Going outside is a big deal to him, so he made brilliant progress with his mum during his training session this week, where we practiced pattern games and reinforcement with high-value treats for walking just a few yards from his house. This helps build his confidence and understanding that outside can be a positive experience too.

Remember, tiny steps are big progress and something to be proud of too. 💛🐾

This week I got to meet the gorgeous (and tiny) puppy Roe 🥰.

She is settling in nicely to her new home and doing a fantastic job with toilet training ⭐️. Roe is a sweet and calm pup who is a little nervous of her lead currently so we practiced positive associations with her lead to ensure that when she is ready for walkies, she is happy and confident to wear it.

As a Labrador, Roe loves to pick things up in her mouth to carry so we implemented the first steps of ‘Drop it’ and ‘Leave it’ which mum and Roe did a great job with.

I can’t wait to see their progress in her next session!

I loved being back and working with Beau and Bennie this week!

Mum and dad have done a brilliant job adding daily enrichment into their routine and turning their garden into a happy space, particularly for Bennie who was struggling with reactivity to noises in neighbouring houses.

They now spend less time worrying and barking at the fences and more time enjoying their ‘digging zone’ sand pit, sensory garden and lots of lovely scent work games instead ❤️

They did a great job practicing lead walking and focus during their session today too ⭐

Today I had the pleasure of working with adorable little pup, Jacko and his mum Rebecca.

Jacko is a very friendly and social boy who loves being around people. However, he is struggling with confidence during walks outside the house, particularly in quiet areas without the distraction of people or other dogs around.

Rebecca has been doing a great job already so today we adapted some of what they are already doing and added a few extra activities and strategies to his daily routine:

🐾 First steps in confidence building and positive associations.

🐾 Breed specific enrichment activities to help keep him feeling fulfilled (the flirt pole was an absolute winner 🤩)

🐾 Adapted his bed time routine to help him settle in his crate at night 💤

Jacko was a star today and I’m looking forward to seeing his progress when I see him next ⭐️.

Another great way of keeping your dog occupied instead of going for a walk this hot weather Is frozen bowls.

Today I used Boil and Broth Beef Bone Broth and treats that i am reviewing for The Dog Trainer School ,along with some fresh melon and cucumber.

Duggie absolutely loved this and it kept him occupied for ages 😃🐾

Meal times are the perfect opportunity to provide enrichment and stimulation, especially during hot weather ☀️

When it’s unsafe to go for a walk, your dog can still get all the benefits of an outing right at home.

Hiding food inside boxes, empty loo rolls, snuffle mats, or just around the house allows them to practice their natural hunting urges. This provides a huge amount of enrichment, all while keeping them calm and safe inside.

💡 Tip: Using a few tasty treats alongside their normal food adds extra excitement!

🐾Today i used my Beef Bone Broth treats i am reviewing for The Dog Trainer School . They were in the snuffle mat that Duggie chose to investigate first. Another clear win for Boil and Broth 😃🐾

Im excited to be reviewing this product for The Dog Trainer School . The brand is boilandbroth. The packaging is great with clear guidance on the back for portions, ingredients and benefits the product provides.

Only having just opened and given Duggie a taste test it’s clear he gives it a big YES so far! Im looking forward to using these treats over the next few days!

During hot weather it’s so important to keep our dogs safe but it doesn’t mean your dog has to miss out. Plan your day, change the time you walk, or even the location from pavement walking to a shady park. Keep outings short and always pay attention to how they’re coping.

I will be posting ideas over the next few days to help you keep your dog safe and happy during hot weather. ☀️🐾
