Our next Flock Health Club Seminar is to be hosted at the practice on Monday 26th October at 7.30pm. Gareth from Elanco will be joining us to discuss Fluke in Sheep (this is the same speaker that presented our Ectoparasite Seminar earlier in the year and received a positive response from attendees!)

Gareth will be sharing case reports from the previous year, with what we expect to see following a warm and wet summer and how best to monitor and protect your flock 🐏🐌 ☔️

Free for FHC members, £10 per farm for non-members. Food and drink provided as always! Please let us know if you plan to attend 😊

Ellie and Holly had a great day at the Kings Academy and Sixth Form Careers Fair chatting to the students about life as a farm vet and vet tech and their journeys to these professions; hopefully inspiring the next generation 🐄🐑🩺

We had a NEW product arrive today. CattleZen is a fast-acting topical product which combines two pheromones. Pheromones are naturally occurring chemicals that trigger physiological responses, namely stress reduction. To be used to mitigate the negative effects of stressful events like weaning, dehorning, vaccination, transport, halter and parlour training. Please give us a call if you’d like to discuss how you could use CattleZen on your farm ☎️

We’ve been carrying out a significantly higher number of fertility tests on breeding rams and bulls recently. 1 out of 3 have failed. We highly recommend testing pre-breeding to avoid any unwanted surprises.
✅ Breed with confidence
✅ Sell with certainty

✨ MEET THE TEAM MONDAY ✨
It’s been a minute since we’ve shared one of these! If you’ve recently called on a Saturday morning you may have heard a new voice on the phone. We’re pleased to say Maddy has joined the reception team on Saturday mornings, answering the phone, helping with queries and coordinating our on-call vet.

Maddy is a vet student from Bristol University who has recently joined the team after a placement with us in the summer. Originally from Midsomer Norton, she has recently moved to Wells. Outside of work and vet school, Maddy enjoys walking with her partner Gregor, going to the gym and travelling. Her ultimate goal is to become a farm vet after she graduates and she’s thrilled to join the team to gain valuable experience in farm veterinary medicine to support her studies.

Please join us in giving her a warm welcome 💕

6 weeks ago vet Ellie visited a day-old calf with a fracture to his tibia. This is the bone above the hock and high-limb fractures of this nature typically carry a poor prognosis due to the difficulties involved in successfully immobilising the area.

Following initial stabilisation with blue piping (a material of many uses!) more robust measures were required and after a collaborative 6-week effort and dedicated stockman-ship, we are super pleased to say this calf has made a full recovery and for the first time in his life is now using his leg splint-free! A true success story 🐮🤩
