This is one of two grass seeds I removed from a dog's paw yesterday. 🌱
Grass seeds may look harmless, but they can be a serious problem for dogs. They often become lodged between the toes and, because of their pointed shape, can work their way into the skin and travel deeper into the leg. This can cause pain, swelling, infection, and may require veterinary treatment to remove them.
During walks, especially through long grass, it's a good idea to check your dog's paws afterwards. Gently separate each toe and have a look between them. Grass seeds are usually around an inch long and can be surprisingly easy to miss.
If your dog is persistently licking a paw, limping, or you notice swelling, it's worth checking for a grass seed and contacting your vet if you're concerned.
A quick paw check after every walk can help prevent a much bigger problem! 🐾
