🏆 Tongue Out Tuesday – And the Winners Are! 👅🐾

From the beginning of June through to the end of July, we loved seeing all your fantastic Tongue Out Tuesday entries! Thank you to everyone who shared photos of their adorable pets showing off their cheeky smiles and tongue-out poses – they certainly brightened our Tuesdays!

More recently, we invited you to vote for your favourites from our shortlisted finalists, and we're delighted to announce our winners:

🐶 Best Dog: ARTHUR
🐱 Best Cat or Other Pet: MERLIN

As a small animal practice, we should give a special mention to BLAZE the horse, who is just slightly bigger than the patients we usually care for! 🐴 (he will, of course, be receiving a prize too!)

A huge congratulations to all of our winners, and thank you again to everyone who took part and voted. We are in contact with the winners' owners, and prizes will be presented very soon. Keep an eye on our page for photos when they're collected! 🎉🐾

🥛 Think twice before giving your dog or cat a bowl of milk… it could do more harm than good.

Many people think milk is a tasty treat for pets, but for most adult dogs and cats, it can actually upset their stomachs.

🐾 When puppies and kittens are young, they produce an enzyme called lactase, which allows them to digest the lactose (milk sugar) in their mother’s milk.

As they grow, are weaned, and switch to solid food, their bodies naturally produce much less lactase—or stop making it altogether. That means they can no longer digest lactose properly.

Giving cow’s milk to an adult dog or cat can lead to:
• Diarrhoea
• Vomiting
• Painful stomach cramps
• Gas and bloating
• Dehydration if the diarrhoea is severe

The good news? Your pet isn’t missing out! A complete, balanced pet diet provides all the nutrition they need, so there’s no health benefit to offering cow’s milk.

If you want to spoil your furry friend, there are plenty of pet-safe treats that they’ll enjoy just as much. 🐶🐱

If you have ever touched your dog or cat’s nose and found it warm and dry; your first instinct may have been to panic and think they have a fever.
Let us tell you straight: a pet’s nose temperature and texture are not a reliable thermometer!

A perfectly healthy animal can have a dry nose, and a very sick one can have a cold, wet one!

Over 80% of dogs and cats show signs of periodontal disease by age 3. But here’s the scary part: ignoring their dental hygiene can actually shorten their lifespan by up to 2 years.

If you’re starting a brushing routine, NEVER use human toothpaste! It contains fluoride and xylitol, which are highly toxic to pets. Always choose a veterinary toothpaste—they come in pet-approved flavors (like poultry or fish!) and contain safe enzymes that break down plaque.
