⭐️ update - Just look at how chilled Hugo is. His owners came to me for help after noticing Hugo struggled to switch off when things were going on. Hugo always wanted to be apart of everything, but in the process forgot to rest himself as he was having so much fun. Now his owners have been able to teach him the skill to go settle when they feel he needs a rest. Baby gates and barriers were a huge part of his training journey and a great tool to aid learning. Now we are progressing into teaching that a crate is a safe place to be.

The Stress Bucket Theory

It’s so important to understand what causes stress for your dog. Have you ever wondered why your dog suddenly starts overreacting or reacting to things they would normally be okay with?
Often, it’s because their “stress bucket” has become too full.

Every stressful experience, trigger, or challenging situation adds a little more to their bucket. If they’re repeatedly exposed to triggers without enough time to decompress and recover, eventually that bucket can overflow, and this is when we may see bigger reactions, even to things they’ve previously coped with.

Understanding your dog’s triggers and recognising when their bucket is getting full can help you manage their environment, reduce stress, and give them the support they need.

Hugo is currently having some help learn that the crate isn’t a scary place to be. Hugo currently is very worried the by noise of the crate and going inside it. Alongside this we are teaching him how to settle in the presence of people.
