I come across so many people still so sceptical about sheath cleaning. But this horse had everything checked but the sheath, probably the cheapest and most simple option too 😅.
Over the years i have encountered many horses that are nearly retired or pts because they are deemed dangerous or difficult and the sheath was the problem.
Yes some horses are very clean and never need doing and others produce too much sm**ma and need doing 6-12 months. Also, just because their wi*ly looks clean it doesn’t mean they don’t have a bean or a lot in their sheath as you don’t see that part. From experience, the cleaner they look they usually have the biggest bean.
But it’s definitely worth the yearly check same as teeth ☺️🐴

First fly strike of the year today 🪰 I took about 40 small maggots from a little Shetland today, just inside his sheath. Luckily they were probably new as he wasn’t showing any symptoms yet apart from a slightly itchy sheath when I started. He will definitely feel better now they are all gone 🐛
