Ruby had a lovely time during her staycation, with plenty of walks, play, cuddles and, of course, dinner! πŸ₯°

We fitted in some tug, recall reps and a little lead work, alongside some very important down stays and plenty of exploring on her walks.

Back at home, there was time for a chew, some well-earned fuss and finding all the coolest spots on the floor because apparently that's essential summer behaviour πŸ˜‚πŸΆ

This week has been full of the little moments that don't always make it onto social media, but make all the difference in the long run πŸΎπŸ’œ

Ruby has continued making fantastic progress with her handling work. Source focus is becoming a brilliant way of helping her feel more comfortable with paw handling, and after using all that brain power she was more than ready for a well-earned chill afterwards.

Bruiser and Blair have continued training around real-life distractions, from settle practise around bikes, prams, children and other dogs to coin indication in the vet waiting room and car park to fitting in a impromptu "yes & get it" drills when unexpected dogs appeared. Blair has also been building confidence around a mini fan, her new nemesis! Those unplanned training opportunities are often some of the most valuable.

Meanwhile, Otto has been practising down stays around the back door to help reduce barrier frustration, Marcel has been enjoying all the fusses, 𝕄π•ͺ π•Ÿπ•’π•žπ•– π•šπ•€ π•‹π•šπ•π•π•ͺ 🐢 has been learning that relaxing on a tether away from her people is safe, and the Wonky Rocky & Co. crew enjoyed making the most of some garden fun together.

Behind the scenes, my own learning continued too. I joined a webinar with Dr. Else | Hondengedragsspecialist on noise sensitivities, spent another inspiring weekend learning from PhoenixK9, and had another opportunity to shadow my mentor The Modern Canine.

Every week reminds me that progress isn't built through one big breakthrough. It's built through hundreds of tiny repetitions, thoughtful training choices and simply showing up consistently.

Another week, another set of little wins πŸΎπŸ’œ

Blair and Marcel had a lovely adventure together, making the most of the field to themselves, while Alfie & Sully continued practising their down stays and Ruby kept working on her recall.

Bruiser has had a fantastic week too. Whether it was settling on his place while his friends played nearby, choosing to re-engage with his key indication after spotting some children, practising stability in his down, or enjoying another walk alongside Blair, it's these everyday moments that remind me how far he's come.

We also finally received Bruiser & Blair's DNA results! Safe to say there were a few surprises... I'd always suspected there was more than just Jack Russell in there, especially with Blair being so tiny and Bruiser having the longest little body (which finally explains why he only seems to fit Dachshund jumpers! 🀣). The biggest surprise? No Jack Russell at all! It certainly explains why they both came with such huge personalities.

Behind the scenes, I also joined a fantastic webinar with CanExplores and I loved the Sink Theory. It's such a simple but powerful way of explaining trigger stacking and why seemingly "small" things can add up until a dog reaches their threshold. I love finding ways to make behaviour science easier to understand.

Of course, there were plenty of adventures with Otto, 𝕄π•ͺ π•Ÿπ•’π•žπ•– π•šπ•€ π•‹π•šπ•π•π•ͺ 🐢 and all my other wonderful four-legged friends too. Thank you all for trusting me with your amazing dogs 🐢

One thing I love about pet sitting is getting to see every side of an animal's personality 🐾

Hugo kept me entertained with endless games of tug and fetch, while Duke showed everyone that learning doesn't stop just because you're getting older. Watching the boys engage with their marker training sessions was brilliant to see.

Nala became braver with each passing day, happily exploring outdoors before quietly sneaking back inside when she thought I wasn't watching.

And, of course, feeding time for the koi fish, clowmfish and various aquarium residents is always fascinating to watch!

Sunny days, training, good friends... and a very well-earned BBQ! β˜€οΈπŸΎ

A huge thank you to Otto, Karl, Alfie & Sully, Sasha, Marcel and Ruby for another wonderful week together. Whether we were exploring, practising training or simply enjoying a slower-paced stroll in the sun, it's always a pleasure spending time with you all πŸ’œ

Blair also enjoyed another walk with 𝕄π•ͺ π•Ÿπ•’π•žπ•– π•šπ•€ π•‹π•šπ•π•π•ͺ 🐢, continuing to show her that other dogs don't have to be scary. Watching nervous dogs slowly build confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

At home, Bruiser and Blair have been working on place training. This week's challenge? Settling in the garden while we enjoyed a BBQ! πŸŒ­πŸ” Safe to say the smells made concentrating a little harder... and yes, I somehow managed to burn my legs enough to resemble a squashie πŸ˜‚

One of my favourite moments this week was another get-together with Dollie and Dottie. We enjoyed a lovely pack walk before everyone relaxed together in the garden and around the house. Seeing Bruiser quietly grooming Dollie's ears and everyone choosing to settle in their own space was a lovely reminder that social time isn't always about playing, sometimes it's simply about being comfortable together.

Behind the scenes, I've also been working my way through the Canine Business Academy book. Running a business means there's always something new to learn, and I love investing time in becoming a better trainer and business owner.

Sunshine, storms, training breakthroughs... and hail the size of tennis balls! 🌦️🐾

Otto continued making brilliant progress with his muzzle training (even if the long grass tried its best to steal the limelight πŸ˜‚). Every session is another step towards making his muzzle a positive part of his routine.

I was also petsitting Duke and Hugo, who have both been practising their marker systems. Hugo is always ready to learn, while Duke has been slowly building his confidence with me. Seeing nervous dogs choose to engage never gets old 🫢🏻

Bruiser and Blair have started learning place training, while Bruiser has also been working through some big feelings around his crate. Sometimes the biggest wins aren't teaching new cues, they're changing how a dog feels about something they find difficult.

Blair has continued being the best little role model for 𝕄π•ͺ π•Ÿπ•’π•žπ•– π•šπ•€ π•‹π•šπ•π•π•ͺ 🐢 too. Watching nervous dogs discover the world can actually be fun is something I'll never get tired of.

Another huge milestone... Bruiser chose to commit to a toy without food involved! πŸŽ‰ For a dog who never really knew how to play, this is a massive win. Play isn't just fun, it's another healthy outlet, another confidence builder, and another piece of the reactivity puzzle.

Buddy has continued polishing his heelwork with some marker discrimination, Ruby embraced another soggy walk, and the Wonky Rocky & Co. gang swapped adventures for indoor games, fusses and treat searches while the hailstorm passed.

Behind the scenes, I attended another brilliant workshop with RavenK9. I love continuing my education and can't wait to bring these ideas into my sessions with your dogs.

Progress isn't always flashy... sometimes it's found in the little moments and this week has been full of those πŸΎπŸ’œ

Ruby has started learning a key indication to make everyday handling easier. It might seem like a small skill now, but it'll make a big difference when it comes to chopping out those pesky clumps of hair.

Buddy, 𝕄π•ͺ π•Ÿπ•’π•žπ•– π•šπ•€ π•‹π•šπ•π•π•ͺ 🐢 and Marcel have all been making the most of long line freedom, exploring at their own pace and enjoying the chance to sniff, investigate and make their own choices.

Bruiser and Blair have also had a brilliant week. We've been practising walking together, recalls and giving Bruiser opportunities to make good decisions around other dogs. He still gets a little... fizzy 🀭... but looking back at where we started, I'm so proud of how far he's come.

One of my favourite moments this week was watching Bruiser discover that play can actually be... fun! πŸ™ŒπŸ» Seeing him commit to his Coachi dummy (which may now need replacing after some enthusiastic success! πŸ˜‚) felt like a huge milestone. For him, play isn't just fun, it's another healthy outlet and another piece of the reactivity puzzle.

Behind the scenes, I shadowed a session with my mentor The Modern Canine, attended her workshop on play, joined a Jo & Vicky | Canine Business Academy webinar, and finally ordered DNA tests for Bruiser & Blair. I can't wait to see what surprises their genetics have in store!

A big shout-out to Otto (who definitely knows when the muzzle training treats are coming πŸ˜‚), Blair for enjoying some well-earned one-to-one time, and the Wonky Rocky & Co. gang for another week of adventures... complete with Dolly's impressive snot bubble! 🀣

A little business update... πŸ’œ

As many of you know, over the past year I've been gradually transitioning from pet care into dog training. After a lot of thought, I've decided that from 2027 I'll no longer be offering pet sitting or cat check-ins.

To every client who has trusted me with your pets over the years - thank you. Whether it was daily visits or a staycation with your pets, it's been an absolute privilege to be part of their lives. I'll always be grateful for the relationships we've built and for the support you've shown my small business.

Any bookings already in my diary will, of course, still be honoured, so nothing changes if you're already booked in.

This isn't the end of my journey with dogs - it's the beginning of a new chapter. My focus is now on helping owners build calmer, happier relationships with their dogs through training.

There's never a dull moment with this crew! 🫢🏻

Duke enjoyed spending time in the garden and playing tug, while Hugo made the most of every walk and every game of fetch. One minute Hugo was racing around with a toy, the next both dogs were curled up together enjoying a well-earned nap 🐢🐢

Nala's confidence continued to blossom too. Each visit she'd venture a little further, spending more time exploring and checking in on what I was doing 😻

Meanwhile, the koi, shrimp (scroll for a video of their dancing 🦐) and the rest of the aquarium residents were all very happy at feeding time 🐟

It's such a privilege getting to know every pet's individual personality.

One thing I never expected from pet sitting was how peaceful feeding a koi pond would be 🫢🏻

Every morning I'd head outside with their food, listen to the birds, and watch them glide through the water. It became one of my favourite parts of the day.

Safe to say... I've completely fallen in love with koi. Do I need a koi pond now? I think I need a koi pond. πŸ˜‚πŸŸ
