📊 COMPARATIVE CASE 🏇

The case below shows the rehabilitation of a suspensory injury in the nearside distal forelimb throughout a 9 month period (Nov 2022-Aug 2023)

Analysis of the Thermogram indicates after 9 months the Region of Interest (ROI) has indicated rehabilitative progress, however also highlighting there is still an abnormal temperature difference in this area so the recovery process is still ongoing.

In the Baseline Scan (Nov 2022) the difference in temperature between bilateral coronet bands is 4.9C, with the nearside coronet band being the ROI. The temperature decreased by 2.9C in the nearside coronet band 9 months later in the 1st Scan (Aug 2023). However, there is still an abnormal thermal pattern evident here in August 2023, as the temperature difference between the nearside and offside coronet bands is 2C.

The palmar view of the pastern joint highlights the rehabilitation of the suspensory injury sustained. In 9 months the medial pastern went from a difference of 5C between bilateral regions, to a difference of 1.2C.

📊 COMPARATIVE REPORTS 📊

There are many advantages with comparative reports in thermal imaging, particularly when monitoring an equine in rehabilitation.

Compiling a comparative report allows the rehab process to be viewed more clearly over a period of time and to assess its recovery.

It also allows veterinarians and owners to judge whether or not the rehabilitation process is complete and if the equine is ready to go back to work or not, preventing possible further injury or stress on the affected region of interest within the musculoskeletal system.

📝 Case Findings 🤓

There are no age restrictions to thermal imaging scans with Spectra-Therm! 💪🏻🌟

Youngsters can be susceptible to injury as well due to their playful nature, especially during turnout! What child doesn’t love to run, play and have freedom in a huge playground after all?! 🐎💨

This yearling filly was presented with a suspected offside shoulder injury.

Findings revealed an abnormal thermal pattern in the offside medial view of the proximal forelimb.
The offside medial forearm is 1.3C warmer than its bilateral region and the offside caudal pectoral region is 1.5C warmer than its bilateral region.
This is evident craniomedially also, with the offside region of interest being 2.5C warmer than the nearside.

Recently attended Drumralla Stables for our prize winner Egle Zakaraite, to avail of her complimentary Equine Thermal Imaging Scan on Ceola 🐎🌈📸

But not only did I have the pleasure of scanning the stunning Ceola, but I made some new little friends that I could have taken home with me in a heartbeat 💗 and yes, they wanted in on all the action too!

🌟 DRUMBARAGH STABLES 🌟

Appreciation post to Drumbaragh Stables for having me today at their Pony Camp! 🙌
