We have deliberately kept quiet on here about the current bluetongue situation in South West Scotland - aware of the ongoing discussion, and of the amount of information (and misinformation) circulating on social media.

We have been in direct communication with clients. As always, our team is at the end of the phone or available face to face to risk assess your individual situation and talk you through the practicalities available for your farm. We know that navigating ScotGov website and understanding some of the wording can be difficult. And we all want to be the right side of the rules now we find ourselves in a TCZ.

We are delighted that thousands of doses of bluetongue vaccine are already in animals across the farms we work with this week, with another delivery expected next week for thousands more. Many of our clients have completed vaccine courses in spring and early summer after herd health discussions with our vets.

We are grateful to both Merlin VetCel and Covetrus for their support of independent veterinary practices and for helping us access vaccine and support our clients during this challenging time.

Rather than adding to the noise, we’ll use this post to signpost useful links to reliable, up-to-date source information:

ScotGov Rural
Animal and Plant Health Agency
Harrison & Hetherington
Wallets Marts
Craig Wilson Limited
Dumfries Auction Mart

Again, we’re at the end of the phone to talk through, support concerns and queries around the rapidly changing situation to you directly.

This morning we’ve sadly had a deceased, small, female tabby cat handed to the surgery. She has four white toes. The wee cat was found on the A712 in the vicinity of Eastlands Farm. Please contact the practice if you think this cat might be yours. No microchip has been found.

The office will closed on Saturday morning due to Stewartry Agricultural Show. Our vets will still be on call for any emergencies you have on Saturday morning on 01556502263

We were once again happy to be asked to provide the vet cover for Tom, Sarah and Nina Clarke’s South of Scotland Horse Trials . The event was bigger and better and sunnier than last year and luckily our services were lightly needed by only a few competitors.

Saturday 30th May 2026

We’re delighted that one of our team is getting married this weekend.

***The office will therefore be open 8 am - 10 am only on Saturday 30th May*** (To allow Bruce to get his hair done 🤪)

Of course, after that there will be a vet on hand to help with any emergencies only that may arise.

Are You Ready for Love? A story to warm your Cold Heart…
Elton the owl was handed in to us, collapsed on Tuesday (We thought Saturday Night was For Fighting). We suspect he was hit by a car… I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues
It has been no Sacrifice for the whole team to not let The Sun Go Down On him.
But by Wednesday, this Tiny Dancer was Still Standing.
He has gone from strength to strength along The Yellow Brick Road to show us the Circle of Life.
Can you Feel the Love Tonight for this High Flying Bird… you could even say he is back to being a Rocketman!
He moves into his aviary tomorrow to continue his rehab. It must be Written In The Stars.
