Today, we hosted a successful Cow Signals meeting with some of our farmers. They discussed how to assess their cows and their environment to make small, practical changes to increase cow welfare, productivity and efficiency. The morning was spent in the classroom followed by an afternoon session on farm, with lots learnt by all! By completing the course, they are now equipped with the tools and framework to make assessments on their own farms 🐮

Big thanks to Wyke Farms for letting us wander around the shed to put the ideas from the morning session into practice

Today we bid a very sad farewell to the one and only Caroline! Some of you may know Caroline from talking to her in accounts and recently she has been covering maternity cover in our farm office! Luckily Caroline isn’t leaving us completely as she is going to work for IVC head office so we still get too see her and speak to her ( hopefully never for being a bad debtor 😉) Thank you for everything you have done for us , and very big part of our team and we will all miss you a lot! We hope you enjoy/enjoyed your cake made by the one and only Abi H ❤️❤️

Last week, our Calf Club visited Buitelaar Development Farm to have a look at the calf housing and environment. Big thanks to the team at Buitelaar for giving us a tour and discussing their protocols and rationale behind the shed design.

Keep an eye out for information about our next calf club meeting in the coming months 🐮

A shed full of sleepy calves!

🐮Abi C and Giles did some knockdown disbuds this week at one of our dairy farms. The calves are given a jab of sedation by the vet and then a local anaesthetic block is given to numb the area.
🐮Before they are disbudded, they are also given an anti-inflammatory as pain relief.
🐮Knockdown disbuds are a cost effective, stress free technique allowing our vets and vet techs to carry out jobs that may seem like a big undertaking in a shorter amount of time.
🐮Additional jobs such as castration can also be done at the same time.

If you are interested in our stress free disbudding service, get in touch with the office!

This spring, we’ve been busy getting ahead of the flies by providing site visits to farms in partnership with Bestico. Using biological fly control such as biowasps, biomite and fly buckets can help minimise flies on farm and associated health problems. The farms who have taken part have received a bespoke fly control plan, as no farm is the same!

If you are interested in a fly control visit, it’s not too late! Get in touch and we can advise you further 🪰
