Little Jilly looks like she has an injured front leg, but upon inspection it’s actually being displaced by a huge scab of ringworm! (Sorry if you’re eating)!)

🛁 A couple of good soaks in medicated baths will soon make her more comfortable.

Treatment will take a long time, probably all through winter if all’s well elsewhere 🤞 and she will lose her fur and quills so will need to be kept warm…

🦔 One quick swipe of a garden strimmer. One seriously injured hedgehog. 💔

This is Dodge. He was brought to Tiggywinkles with a large, deep wound across the top of his head after being caught by a garden strimmer.

Our veterinary team has been treating his injury, and he’s now sporting a special wound treatment patch to help him heal.

We’ll keep a close eye on Dodge and give him all the care he needs to get back on his tiny feet.

Sadly, hedgehogs often curl into a ball when they feel threatened, making them incredibly difficult to spot in long grass and undergrowth.

🌿 Before you strim or mow, always check carefully for wildlife. Those few extra moments could make all the difference to a little life that might be a bit slow to dodge disaster...

Open for business once again and the first admission is this tiny chap 🥰

Hedgehogs don’t sunbathe, so if you find one warming up in the sun, think again - does it need help?

This little one was also jumping with fleas and at only 100g news in desperate need of a bath, fluids and a warm hutch…

Autumn juveniles are especially vulnerable as it slow going for them to put enough weight in for winter as it is, but being the last litter of the year, they’re often born a bit weaker… That’s why now should be the busiest time for our rescues, but of course we’ve all been dealing with the terrible drought too 😩

And just a reminder, I take in hedgehogs around my full time business commitments, so if I can’t respond immediately, I’m sorry 🙏🏻

Here’s to an autumn that’s full of crisp days, plenty of nighttime rain and few babies in need 🤞

It’s been an emotional afternoon for me!

127 days ago I took on a litter of four 4-day old hoglets.

They weighed 40g, were still blind, deaf, unable to feed themselves or go to the toilet without help.

I slept on the sofa with them for two weeks, feeding and tending to their needs every two hours.

Today, weighing in average 700g, they went free!

The Blenheim Four; Winston, Clementine, John ‘Jack’ Strange and William ‘Bill’ Hozier now reside at Blenheim Palace Lodge Retreat, close to where they were found by carpenter Ollie.

I’m so proud of myself for getting them all through! But while I feel delighted at their success in thriving, I’m sad to see them go!

I’m taking some quiet time for myself, to recover from this horrible eczema that has damaged my left hand, but I’ll be back for the autumn onslaught!

45 days of care and she made it up to release weight this morning so we took the opportunity to get out of captivity tonight.

I’m having an open afternoon on Saturday 29th from 2-4pm.

You’re invited to come to the garden and see the hogspital, chat with me and meet Kas, my trusted volunteer, who runs The Hog Haven on the other side of town.

There’ll be hot and cold drinks, cake and biscuits and hopefully a hog to meet.

Please DM for the address, and I politely ask you not to share it publicly as it’s only my garden and I do have to consider my neighbours 🤣

It’s been a pleasure supporting this little girl who was stuck in a roadside drainage gutter one afternoon.
