Meet my very own Buddy, the dog behind Furiends! I’m sure you’ve all heard him at drop offs 🙄, but did you know he’s the very reason Furiends Dog Grooming exists?
Buddy is a (typical) 10 year old Cockapoo with high anxiety, which has only got worse as he’s aged!
We had the most fantastic groomer when he was a pup but he always found the groom process, and life in general, stressful.
I was curious if he would be any different if i was to groom him myself, as he was like my shadow, and would allow me to do pretty much anything to him, when others would not be allowed close.
When he was 2, I enrolled in evening classes as an introduction to dog grooming. The only plan I had was to be able to safely groom Buddy, and hopefully reduce his groom related stress.
I completed my first 6 months at college and discovered I really kinda liked it, and subsequently went on to complete a further 6 months private tuition learning to groom many other popular dog breeds. From there the idea of Furiends was born, and the rest is history!
So it’s all thanks to my velcro, anxiety ridden, fiercely loyal cockapoo, that i accidentally started a successful wee business which will celebrate its 7th birthday in a couple of months.
……..and for the record Buddy is still the worst dog I groom, and it made bu**er all difference to him if it was me or the postie grooming him, he’s still an as***le on the table! 🤦🏼♀️
