🐾 Puppy classes should feel supportive… not overwhelming. 🐾

Starting in June, I’ll be running a new block of Cŵn Clyfar Puppy FUNdamentals classes at Bancffosfelen Hall.

These classes are designed to help puppies and their families build:
🐶 calmness
🐶 confidence
🐶 focus
🐶 optimism around novelty
🐶 real-life skills through games and play

Classes are intentionally kept very small so that puppies and people both have space to learn comfortably.

✔ Maximum 4 puppies
✔ Family friendly
✔ Games-based training
✔ Force-free and reward-based
✔ Real-life practical skills
✔ Supportive learning environment

To keep the classes sustainable and effective, the block will only run with a minimum of 3 bookings.

If you are hoping to give your puppy a calm, thoughtful start, feel free to message me for more information. 🐾

☀️ Sometimes good dog training means changing the plan.

I’ve decided to postpone Thursday’s children and dogs workshop because of the warm weather forecast.

The expected temperature is around 23°C, which can be borderline for some dogs, especially when we add in movement, excitement, children, learning, travel and a hall without air conditioning.

At Cŵn Clyfar, welfare always comes first. That means we don’t just ask, “Can the dog cope?” We ask, “Is this the best learning environment for the dog and the children?”

The workshop will be rearranged for a cooler day.

Over the next few days I’ll share some simple summer dog-safety and training ideas instead.

Cadwch yn ddiogel / keep cool 🐾

🐾 Happy Bank Holiday Monday and Take Your Dog to the Pub Day! 🍽️🐶🐾

Dog-friendly and dog-enjoys-it are not always the same thing.

And honestly?
That is okay 💙

Some dogs LOVE cafés, pubs and busy environments.

Some dogs enjoy them in small doses.

And some dogs would much rather stay at home with a chew and a quiet nap 😅

Part of building a good relationship with our dogs is learning to notice:
🐾 what helps them feel safe
🐾 what they genuinely enjoy
🐾 and what might feel overwhelming for them

“Good” dogs are not dogs who tolerate everything.

They are dogs whose humans listen to them.

Real-life skills like:
💙 settling calmly
💙 relaxing around people
💙 coping with movement and noise
💙 and being able to switch off in public spaces

can absolutely be practised kindly and gradually.

And equally…
sometimes the kindest choice is recognising a dog simply does not enjoy those environments.

Both are valid 💙

I’m considering running some small calm café/pub settling sessions and real-life social skills walks in June for dogs who would benefit from gentle practice in dog-friendly spaces.

Would that be something your dog would enjoy?🐶💕 🐾

🐾 Calmness is a skill. / Mae tawelwch yn sgil. 🐾

One of the biggest misconceptions in dog training is that calm dogs are simply “naturally calm”.

In reality, many dogs need help learning:
💙 how to settle
💙 how to pause
💙 how to switch off
💙 and how to feel safe enough to relax

For some dogs, especially busy adolescents or sensitive dogs, that can take time.

And sometimes progress does not look dramatic.

Sometimes progress simply looks like:
🐾 choosing the bed more often
🐾 settling a little quicker
🐾 recovering faster after excitement
🐾 or finding it easier to relax around family life

Those small moments matter enormously.

Calmness is not about shutting dogs down.
It is about helping them feel safe, understood and able to cope with the world around them 💙

Wishing everyone a calm Sunday and a gentle start to the new week 🐶

🐾 Kids & Dogs Workshop / Gweithdy Plant a Chŵn 🐾

Not every child who loves dogs feels fully confident around them.

And not every family knows where to start when thinking about welcoming a dog into their home.

That’s exactly why I created this small-group workshop 💙

The aim is not perfection.
The aim is helping children feel:
🐾 calmer
🐾 safer
🐾 more confident
🐾 and better able to understand dogs kindly and respectfully

During the first hour we will learn through fun activities, games and discussion.

Then in the second hour, Ash will join us to help children practise fun and safe interactions in real life.

This is designed to feel supportive, relaxed and welcoming, especially for children who:
• adore dogs
• feel unsure around dogs
• are hoping for a dog one day
• or simply want to understand them better

🐾 Tiny wins still count. / Mae llwyddiannau bach yn cyfrif. 🐶🐾

Sometimes progress looks like:
• a calmer walk
• a quicker recovery after excitement
• checking in more often
• choosing connection over chaos
• or simply enjoying being together a little more

Dog training is rarely a straight line.
There will be muddy days, windy days, distracted days and “what are we even doing?” days too 😅

But the tiny moments matter.

Those little moments grow into habits.
Those habits grow into trust.
And trust changes everything 💙

Beth oedd llwyddiant bach eich ci chi yr wythnos yma?

💙 Mae helpu plant a chŵn i deimlo’n ddiogel gyda’i gilydd yn bwysig iawn i mi. 💙

I’m very proud to have recently renewed my membership as a Kids Around Dogs Approved Professional (KAD-AP).

For me, this work has never been about teaching children to “control” dogs or teaching dogs to simply “tolerate” children.

It is about helping:
🐾 children understand dogs
🐾 dogs feel safe around children
🐾 families build calm, kind relationships together
🐾 adults recognise body language, stress and communication early

One of the things I love most about Kids Around Dogs is that it focuses on prevention, understanding and emotional safety for everyone involved.

Every child and every dog deserves the opportunity to feel safe, heard and understood. 💚🐶🐾

As part of this work I also offer:
🐶 school sessions
🐶 family support
🐶 children and dogs workshops
🐶 support for children who are nervous around dogs

I’ll also be running a Kids & Dogs workshop during half term next week. 🐾

🐾 Dydd Cenedlaethol Cŵn Achub Hapus. 🐾

Every rescue dog carries a story we may never fully know.

Some arrive worried.
Some over-excited.
Some shut down.
Some simply trying their best to understand a completely new world.

Behaviour is communication, not “good” or “bad” dogs.

One of the kindest things we can do is look beyond labels and ask:
“What might this dog need to feel safe, understood and successful?”

Rescue dogs do not need perfection from us.

They need patience.
Consistency.
Safety.
Understanding.
And time.

These lovely dogs were photographed during our time volunteering at Lizzies Barn Sanctuary a year ago and still bring back such warm memories. 💚🐶🐾

Mae pob ci yn haeddu cael ei ddeall. 💚🐶🐾

🐶 Dydy cŵn bach ddim angen bod yn berffaith i ddysgu. 🐶

One of the biggest pressures new puppy owners feel is the idea that they should be “getting everything right”.

But puppies are babies learning about a very big world.

They need:
🐾 rest
🐾 safety
🐾 calm guidance
🐾 opportunities to explore
🐾 kind boundaries
🐾 time to learn

Training is not about creating a “perfect dog”.

It is about helping dogs and humans learn how to live together safely, calmly and happily.

Sometimes the most important progress is simply a puppy beginning to feel safe, optimistic and connected to their family. 💚

I’m currently considering running another small Puppy FUNdamentals block in June. If you think this might suit your family, feel free to get in touch for more information. Sarah: 07514 278442🐶🐾
