💉🐑 Bluetongue Vaccination Day! 🐄🐐🦙

We’re holding a dedicated bluetongue vaccination day on 22nd July 2026.

The bluetongue vaccine can be given to camelids, sheep, goats and cattle — helping farmers protect their herds and flocks.

🚨 BVD legislation update for Welsh cattle keepers 🚨

New BVD rules came into force in Wales on 1st July.

If your herd is Not Negative for BVD, there are new legal requirements, including:

🐄 Pre-movement antigen testing for eligible cattle before they leave the farm.
🐄 Post-movement testing for eligible cattle entering Wales from outside the country.
🐄 Whole herd testing and tissue tagging of all newborn calves to help identify and remove Persistently Infected (PI) animals.

Knowing your herd’s BVD status is now more important than ever to stay compliant and protect cattle health.

Bluetongue risk is increasing as midge activity rises across Wales 🦟

The highest-risk period for bluetongue transmission is now underway, and confirmed cases continue to be identified, including a recent case in neighbouring Ceredigion.

The most common signs leading to diagnosis include:
🐄 Abortions and fertility problems
🐄 Dummy calves and neurological signs
🐄 Weak or abnormal newborn calves

Don’t get caught out this season. Speak to our team about your bluetongue risk and the options available to protect your herd or flock.

🚨 Important update for Welsh cattle keepers 🚨

From July 2026, the next phase of Wales’ BVD eradication scheme comes into force. Herds with a ‘Not Negative’ BVD status will face movement restrictions and additional testing requirements.
