My name is Ellen Davies. I grew up with dogs, cats and horses and have always found it fascinating to see how they behave and learn. I started out working in pet shops whilst at School then a few years later in 2004 I decided to go to college to become a Veterinary Nurse. I qualified in 2010 and went on to be the Head Veterinary Nurse in a Veterinary Surgery in the outskirts of Woking. I have always had the ambition to work for myself so shortly after achieving my Veterinary Nursing qualification, I started up my own small business looking after peoples cats and dogs whilst owners where away. This then spread to dog walking and cat sitting on a more regular basis. (See Dog Walking/Holiday Pet Care pages)

After many years of attending a dog agility club with my little Jack Russell, Marley, I decided my passion extended to dog training. In 2010 I opened my own dog agility club and am so very proud of Four Paws Agility Club in Mayford , Surrey. I decided to open a 'Fun Agility Club' as i found the pressure of competing for some dog owners can put them off of starting such an amazing sport. (See Four Paws Agility Club page)

Soon after starting my agility club I took the necessary qualifications needed to become a Dog Trainer. I own two rescue dogs that have a past of being badly mistreated by previous owners and I know from experience how hard it is to overcome their experiences and move forward towards a better life. Using the techniques I was taught and adapting my lifestyle for the better, my dogs are now much more relaxed and can just be dogs without stress. I have continued to offer 1-2-1 home consultations to help owners and their dogs to achieve the same success I have. (See Dog Training/Behaviour page). In addition to home consultations, I also run Four Paws Puppy Training and Socialisation on a Tuesday evening and Saturday morning in Ash and Mayford, Surrey. As I had had such great success with my home consultations for adult dogs, I realised it would be greatly benificial to run puppy classes to help prevent behavioural problems in the future. Using my dog training background, I train and advise owners how best to raise their puppies to be happy, well rounded and well socialised in the most natural and positive way. In addition to puppy training, I also offer Puppy Agility and Obedience courses. (See Puppy Training page and Dog Training/behaviour page). Qualifications

🦷 Your dog’s teeth are about so much more than fresh breath… they’re an important part of their overall health.

Last week, one of my lovely regular EmmiPet clients came into my home treatment room for her routine maintenance clean. I see her every 6–8 weeks, and her owners do an incredible job looking after her health, which made what I found even more important.

While gently cleaning her teeth with the EmmiPet ultrasound toothbrush, I noticed that her upper left carnassial tooth didn’t look quite right. On closer inspection, I became concerned that she may have a slab fracture.

A fractured carnassial tooth can be extremely painful, as the pulp (where the nerves and blood vessels are) may be exposed. If left untreated, it can also become infected, so I advised her owners to book an appointment with their veterinary practice as soon as possible for assessment.

The owners had no idea there was a problem, and honestly, that’s completely understandable. Most of us rarely get a good look at our dogs’ back teeth, especially the large chewing teeth tucked right at the back of the mouth.

This is why regular oral health checks and maintenance cleans are so valuable. They’re not just about reducing plaque and tartar—they’re an opportunity to spot potential problems early, before they become even more serious.

Although I cannot diagnose dental conditions, my background as a qualified veterinary nurse means I have a good understanding of what healthy mouths should look like. If I notice anything that concerns me, I’ll always recommend a prompt visit to your veterinary practice for assessment.

Sometimes an EmmiPet appointment isn’t just a teeth clean—it could be the reason a painful problem is identified before it goes unnoticed.

🏙️ Confidence & Sniff Adventure Club – Session 5 of 6: Our Town Adventure! 🐾

This week our amazing dogs took on one of their biggest adventures yet… Carmarthen town!

With busy streets, changing environments, narrow pavements, open spaces and so many new sights, sounds and smells, the dogs were encouraged to explore at their own pace, building confidence through choice, trust and positive experiences.

Throughout the session we practised pattern games, our traffic light exercise and introduced two new confidence-building activities, helping the dogs to navigate the town calmly while staying connected with their guardians.

The transformation we’ve seen over the last five weeks has been incredibly special. Dogs who arrived feeling unsure of the world are now choosing to investigate new environments with growing confidence. They’re making their own decisions, recovering more quickly from things they find worrying and, most importantly, building lasting trust with the people at the end of the lead.

There are no quick fixes here—just kindness, patience and understanding. Watching each dog’s confidence grow week by week has been an absolute privilege, and every single team should be so proud of how far they’ve come. ❤️

A huge well done to everyone! We can’t wait for our final adventure together next week.

🌿 Our next 6-week Confidence & Sniff Adventure Club starts on Thursday 30th July at 10.30am, and we now have just THREE spaces remaining!

If you’d love to help your dog build confidence, enjoy enriching adventures and strengthen your bond together, we’d love you to join us.

🌿 Confidence & Sniff Adventure Club – Session 4 🌿

Last week we headed to the woods for another fantastic Confidence & Sniff Adventure Club session! 🌳🐾

The dogs enjoyed exploring a brand new environment while taking part in Find It games, focus exercises and new exploration activities designed to help them build confidence moving away from their guardians.

It was wonderful to see just how much progress everyone has made. Some of the dogs who previously preferred to stay very close to their guardians were happily choosing to explore further afield, using their noses and growing in confidence with every step. It was such a joy to watch!

Well done everyone – you should all be so proud of your amazing dogs! 💚

I can’t wait for this week’s session as we head into town for another new adventure!

🐾 Our next 6-week Confidence & Sniff Adventure Club starts Thursday 30th July at 10:30am. We’ll be exploring a variety of locations in and around Carmarthen, including beaches, woodland, a secure dog park, the town and more, all while helping your dog build confidence, focus and resilience through fun, force-free activities.

If you’d like to join us, get in touch – we’d love to welcome you and your dog! 🐶
