A huge congratulations to all of our ClickStart teams who travelled to Trowbridge on Sunday to compete in Avon Working Dog Training Society’s UK Dog Sport event.

A special congratulations to:

Claire & Valkyrie – qualifying and taking 2nd place in Novice, as well as receiving a special prize for their fantastic Search Square.

Anne & Seren – qualifying and taking 4th place in Novice.

Julie & Lexi – qualifying and taking 2nd place in Intermediate.

Cath & Caio – qualifying and taking 1st place in Intermediate.

We are incredibly proud of everyone who stepped onto the field. Competitions are about so much more than placings and qualifications. Every new venue, judge and set of exercises presents fresh challenges and learning opportunities for both dogs and handlers.

Training and competing under different judges helps build confident, adaptable teams and gives us all valuable experience to take back into our training.

Whether you qualified or not, it was a fantastic day and we loved seeing our teams out there giving it their best.

Thank you to Avon Working Dog Training Society for hosting another enjoyable event.

Want a puppy that chooses to come back when called, walks nicely on lead, settles calmly and enjoys learning with you?

Our Puppy Foundations Course is designed to give you and your puppy the best possible start together.

Using fun, reward-based training, we’ll help you build confidence, focus, engagement and the essential life skills that every puppy needs.

Over this 4-week course we’ll cover:

Huge congratulations to all of our recent Kennel Club Good Citizen graduates!

We are so pleased for our members who passed the Bronze and Gold awards last week. Every team has worked so hard, so a big well done everyone!

A huge thank you as well to our examiners Sue Banks and Delphine Richards. They were such warm, friendly and fair judges and really helped put everyone at ease on the day.

Due to the current heatwave, our Wednesday evening classes will now begin next week instead, so there is still time to book on!

We still have a couple of places available on:

• Wednesday 6pm Puppy Class
• Wednesday 7pm Kennel Club Bronze/Silver Class

We also still have two spaces left on our Thursday 1:15 pm Kennel Club Mixed Class which starts this week.

☀️ Hot weather reminder for dog owners ☀️

Dogs can struggle much more in the heat than many people realise, especially:
• Flat-faced breeds
• Overweight dogs
• Elderly dogs
• Young puppies
• Dogs exercising in the heat

A few important reminders during warmer weather:

✔️ Walk earlier or later when cooler
✔️ Always provide access to shade and fresh water
✔️ Check pavements before walking
✔️ Keep travel well ventilated
❌ Never leave dogs in cars
❌ Don’t underestimate how dangerous exercising in the heat can be

Signs of heatstroke can include:
⚠️ Heavy panting
⚠️ Drooling
⚠️ Bright red gums
⚠️ Lethargy or collapse

If you suspect heatstroke:
COOL FIRST, TRANSPORT SECOND.

Move the dog somewhere shaded, start cooling with cool water, and contact your vet immediately. Avoid using ice-cold water, as this can make things worse.

We often see the exciting side of dog sports…A Frame, jumps, scales, tight turns at speed, and competition days.

But a huge part of it for me is also making sure my dog is physically fit, strong and healthy enough to actually do the work safely.

That’s one of the reasons we regularly head over to CrossFit sessions in Pembrey with Actif - Small Animal Physiotherapy and Canine Conditioning.

Building strength, body awareness, coordination and overall fitness helps support everything else we do and can help reduce the risk of injury when training and competing.

Sometimes the quieter foundation work behind the scenes is just as important as the flashy bits.
