Welsh Pony Plaques
About us
It all started with two horses and a row of stables
In 2016, Helen wanted Holly and Seren to know which stable was theirs. So she did what any horse lover would do — she made them a plaque each. Hand-drawn, hand-cut, hand-painted. Two plaques became three when a friend at the yard wanted one too, and by the time those three were hanging on the doors, everyone else up the yard was asking for one as well.

Welsh Pony Plaques was born. Not from a business plan, but from a paintbrush, a jigsaw, and two very opinionated horses.

The people behind the plaques
Helen & Jonathan

Helen paints every piece by hand, bringing each animal to life from a blank canvas. Jonathan cuts the shapes and prepares the wood, sanding and base-coating everything, ready for Helen to work her magic. Every plaque is coloured to order, personalised with the unique markings, flecks, and features that make each animal theirs, then finished with a protective varnish to last a lifetime.

As Helen puts it: "I love painting personalisation. Taking a blank canvas and creating something that's unmistakably that person's horse. The little marks, the colouring, the flecks that are different to every other horse. When it's completed, it's just wow. That's theirs."

St Clears YFC Agricultural Show Committee have agreed to proceed with all scheduled Equine Classes at this year’s Show on 20 June 2026 at the United Counties Showground, Carmarthen.

This decision follows ongoing monitoring, a dedicated Committee meeting, and direct consultation with veterinary experts, who have confirmed that case numbers have declined and that a number of equine events across Wales and the wider UK have recently taken place safely under sensible precautions.

While we recognise that this decision may not be welcomed by everyone, the Committee will respect the wishes of those exhibitors who do not wish to attend. However, it will offer those who are happy to compete the opportunity to do.

Health Requirements for Exhibitors
We kindly ask all competitors to support the Show’s commitment to animal welfare and public safety by following these expectations:
• Healthy horses only — Horses must be fit, well, and free from any signs of respiratory illness.
• Vaccination encouraged — While we understand that not all horses can be vaccinated, we strongly encourage vaccination where possible, in line with standard equine industry best practice.
• Do not attend if unwell — If your horse shows any symptoms of illness, please keep them at home for their welfare and the welfare of others.
• Common sense biosecurity — Exhibitors are asked to follow sensible hygiene measures, minimise unnecessary contact between horses, and bring only essential equipment to the showground.
These measures reflect the approach taken by many agricultural shows and equestrian events across the UK during periods of heightened disease awareness.

Commitment to Safety and Welfare
The St Clears YFC Agricultural Show remains committed to:
• High welfare standards.
• Responsible event management
• Transparent communication with exhibitors and the public

We will continue to monitor any updates from veterinary authorities and will communicate promptly should circumstances change.
