Chocolate poisoning is one of those situations where acting quickly really matters.

If your pet has helped themselves to chocolate, try to find out:

🍫 What type of chocolate it was (white, milk or dark chocolate)

⚖️ Roughly how much was eaten

⏰ When it happened

Then call us for advice as soon as possible. The sooner we know what happened, the sooner we can assess the risk and advise on the safest next steps.

Please don’t try to make your pet vomit unless a veterinary professional specifically tells you to do so.

Bruich had her stitches removed yesterday. She is fully healed from her spay. She spent the last 10 days being walked on the lead only, and wearing her medical pet shirt so she couldn't lick her stitches. She recovered very quickly, and was raring to go from 24 hours post op! Now she can get back to all her favourite things, including jumping into the dirtiest puddles she can find!

Gastroenteritis is the inflammation of the stomach and intestines and can cause symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, reduced appetite and abdominal discomfort.

There are a lot of possible causes, including eating something unusual, a sudden change in diet, infections, parasites, stress or other underlying health problems.

Some cases are mild and resolve by themselves, but others can become serious quickly, especially if your dog is losing a lot of fluids.

You should contact us promptly if your dog:

👉 Is vomiting repeatedly or cannot keep water down

👉 Has blood in their vomit or diarrhoea

👉 Seems very lethargic, weak or unusually quiet

👉 Has a painful, swollen or bloated abdomen

👉 Shows signs of dehydration, such as dry gums or reduced urination

👉 May have swallowed a foreign object, toxin or something they shouldn’t have

👉 Has severe symptoms, that are worsening or not improving

👉 Is a young puppy, elderly dog or has an existing health condition

Even what looks like a simple stomach upset can sometimes have a more serious cause, so if you’re worried about your dog, or their symptoms seem out of the ordinary, speak to us for advice.

Autumn can mean cooler days, wetter walks and more time spent curled up indoors, and pets living with osteoarthritis may need a little extra support.

Simple changes at home can help make everyday life more comfortable, such as:

🐾 Providing a warm, comfortable orthopaedic bed.

🐾 Keeping exercise regular and gentler rather than having very active days followed by long periods of rest.

🐾 Using non-slip rugs or mats on slippery floors.

🐾 Considering ramps or steps if your pet struggles to reach their favourite places.

🐾 Helping them maintain a healthy weight to reduce unnecessary strain on their joints.

A few thoughtful adjustments can make autumn much easier on sore joints.

When we listen to your pet’s chest with a stethoscope, we’re checking more than just their heartbeat. 🫀🐾

We’re listening to the rate and rhythm of the heart, the different heart sounds, and the way air is moving through the lungs. These can all provide useful clues about what may be happening inside your pet’s body.

For example, we may detect an unusually fast or slow heart rate, an irregular rhythm, a heart murmur, or changes in breathing sounds that could suggest a problem affecting the heart or lungs.

This is one of the many reasons why regular health checks can be so valuable, even when your pet seems perfectly well. 🩺

World Animal Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate animals and think about the small actions we can take to make a positive difference in their lives.

There are plenty of ways to get involved:

🐶 Be a responsible pet owner by providing your pet with the right nutrition, exercise, veterinary care, enrichment and plenty of love.

🤝 Support animal organisations by volunteering your time, donating, or simply sharing their social media content to help their message reach more people.

🦔 Help wildlife in your community by keeping outdoor spaces safe, avoiding litter, providing fresh water where appropriate, and respecting local wildlife and their habitats.

Every action, big or small, can help shape a kinder world for animals.
