Last walk this week was in the beautiful Gelt Woods. Maggie was joined by Baloo, Murphy, Alby, Rufus, Eric and Benny. It was fantastic sunshine for most of the morning, that’s maybe why there were so many people about, but it clouded over as the day went on.

Maggie was joined by Baloo, Indy, Halle, Lexi, Ernie and Murphy. We headed back to the North Pennines. Starting, as usual up Talkin Fell, we went across onto Brown Fell and the long walk up to Cold Fell. From there we dropped across to Tindale Fell before descending via Burthwaite. Then it was across the Forest Head quarries and the last mile or so along the road back to the van. Quite a while since we did this walk it won’t be so long until we do it again.

With the good weather continuing, we headed back up to Geltsdale. Maggie was joined by Murphy, Baloo, Rex, Alby, Rufus and Benny. There was a steady wind all day but the sun shone and it was a cracking walk up Talkin Fell, Simmerson Hill and along Geltsdale.

It was our first trip down to Mardale Head, at the top of Haweswater, for a long time. Maggie was joined by Lexi, Halle, Indie, Rex and Murphy. We could see that the clouds were down over the tops but, with a stiff breeze, there was a chance it would blow over. It didn’t. We took the path up along the Rough Crag, Long Stile ridge. In my opinion by far the best way up High Street. Just like last week, there were no views from the top. We soon dropped out of the clouds as we made our way over Mardale Ill Bell, down to Nan Bield pass and down past Small Water where the dogs had a refreshing swim. From there it’s a simple walk back to the van and the end of a glorious walk.

Maggie was joined by Murphy, Alby, Rufus, Rex and Baloo. We set off going over Talkin Fell. Sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. We then cut across Simmerson Hill and onto Brown Fell. I was feeling good so we pushed on to the top of Cold Fell, before heading back the way we had gone. Just had a look back and it is over 2 yrs since I was at the summit cairn. Blencathra on Tuesday, Cold Fell on Thursday, I’m happy with that

Maggie was joined by Rex, Indy, Halle, Lexi and Murphy. I was heading down to Keswick to have a walk up Latrigg but somehow the van turned off at Scales. And there we were at the bottom of Blencathra! So off we set up and across Mousethwaite Coomb, in really warm sunshine. As soon as we reached Scales Tarn we were in thick cloud that stayed at about the same level all day. From the Tarn it is a stiff pull up to the summit. No view today. We then crossed to Foule Crag and dropped to Glendermackin Col and down the valley following the river of that name. A quick up and over at White Horse Bent and we were back. Brilliant to be back out on the high fells again.

Maggie was joined today by Daphne, Murphy, Rufus, Alby, Baloo, Ernie and Benny. We parked just off the new by-pass and took our normal route along the Petteril and through Wreay Woods. We then backtracked and continued along the Petteril to Harraby and back. This is becoming one of my favourite local walks. Good combination of open fields for the dogs to run freely and thick woodland for them to have a good sniff around in.

Down to the Lakes today for Daphne, Halle, Infie, Lexi, Ernie and Murphy. To our old stamping ground we parked ap at Swineside at the top of Mosedale. We walked past Carrock mine and up to the hut. From there is was the gradual climb up onto Knott. We headed towards Great Calva but then turned down the valley following W***y Gill down to the Caldew and back along the main valley to the van. A fantastic day

Quite a wet and windy day up on the Geltsdale fells for Murphy, Daphne, Alby, Rufus, Baloo, Ernie and Benny. We went over Talkin Fell and round the shoulder of Simmerson Hill, intending to drop down to Gairs and up along Geltsdale. One of the realities of walking in this area is that there are quite a few cows living out on the fells for most of the year. Cows and a number of dogs are not a good mix. In over 20yrs of regular walking here I have to say that I have never had a serious incident with the cows. It’s their home and they have ‘right of way’. If you can give them a good 30yds then you rarely get a second look from them. However, today they were well spread out right across the Gairs area. Do we had to re-plan and headed off up Brown Fell instead, before heading back to Jocky Shield. A lovely day of wandering. Cows didn’t spoil it at all.

Not a great weather forecast so I headed to Gelt Woods with Daphne, Baloo, Halle, Indy, Lex, Ernie and Murphy. This was the same walk that these guys did last week. I felt a bit guilty for a moment but that is just ridiculous. They just love being out on a long walk with their mates, not bothered at all if they do the same walks week after week. It’s me who likes a regular change of scenery.
