This afternoon we took a couple of young horses away from home to the local arena to school, work on the flat and pop a few little cross poles… which is such an important part of their education 🐴

Flat work is the foundation of everything! We want them to learn to use their bodies correctly, develop balance, maintain a rhythm and work in a balanced, controlled pace and outline, rather than simply rushing from A to B 🐎

Then we can introduce little cross poles in a way that builds on those foundations — encouraging them to think for themselves, find their balance and develop coordination and confidence.

It teaches them to:
✨ Focus on their rider in a new environment
✨ Build confidence away from home
✨ Learn to deal with new surroundings, distractions and other horses
✨ Develop balance, rhythm and coordination
✨ Use themselves correctly and carry themselves in a balanced way
✨ Become more independent and adaptable
✨ Gain valuable experience for their future careers

We keep the fences small and the sessions positive — the aim isn’t to test them, but to build their confidence, develop correct foundations and set them up for the future 👏🏽❤️

Every trip, every schooling session and every new experience is another little piece of the puzzle in producing a confident, balanced and well-rounded young horse 🧩🐴
