Today is International Day of Charity

We're proud to support charities and organisations that make a difference in our community, right here in Carlisle.
So, on Wednesday the 23rd of September we are hosting a cake and plant sale in the practice. All proceeds will be donated to Eden Valley Hospice and Knoxwood Wildlife Rescue, two amazing local charities.
This is open to all, no need to have an appointment, or a pet registered with us, come and enjoy homemade treats and plants for a great cause.
Please note that the bake and plant sale will be cash only, so all monies goes directly to the charities.

The Cinnamon Trust needs additional dog walking volunteers in Carlisle – CA2 postcode area.

Could you volunteer to offer some support to an older resident of Carlisle and their delightful little dog who would love some walking companions. If the answer is yes we would be delighted to hear from you.

You would become part of a small team of volunteers assigned to a particular owner and their dog walking on a rota basis to suit your availability, the aim being that the dog gets a good walk several times a week.

We will be closed on Monday 31st August (tomorrow) for the bank holiday, but as always if your pet needs help or attention then we are available out of hours, call us as normal on 01228 549177 to get the on call vets details.

🐾 Parvovirus 🐾

**Trigger warning - talk of pet death**

Unfortunately in recent weeks we have seen and treated 2 cases of Parvovirus.

Parvovirus is a highly contagious virus that mostly affected young puppies and unvaccinated older dogs. The virus attacks cells in a dog's intestines and stops them being able to absorb vital nutrients. It is spread through bodily fluids including in a dog's poo and vomit. It can also survive outside of the animals body - for example in grass in local parks - for at least 6 months possibly longer.

Parvovirus can be treatable when caught early, with a survival rate of 68-92% but without treatment the virus unfortunately, will be fatal in most cases. Prevention is always better than cure and it is always advised to vaccinate your dog.

If your pet is vaccinated then you don't need to do anything at all, they are already covered. If your pet is not vaccinated or you are concerned about your dog then please contact us to discuss on 01228 549177 we are always on hand to answer any questions you have.

We have had a long haired all black cat brought in to the practice. She had a microchip but unfortunately it was not registered. Due to her injuries and her condition deteriorating, we had to make the tough decision to put her to sleep. She was found brookside area. If you think she may belong to you, please contact the practice.
