St David Veterinary Centre is a small animal practice based in the Cardiff area. We provide extensive consulting hours, including 4 late night surgeries a week and appointments on a saturday morning at our Llanishen practice. Halloween means plenty of chocolate treats
around the house, but while they might be a
tasty treat for us, chocolate can be seriously
harmful to dogs.

Chocolate contains theobromine, which can
cause serious illness – and there’s no “a little is
fine” when it comes to our pets.

If you think your dog has eaten chocolate, don’t
wait for symptoms to appear.

Give us a call straight away so
we can advise you on what to do next.

And remember: keep those Halloween treats
well out of paw's reach!

Lily's owner signed her up to our practice health plan which helps spread the cost of her preventative health care. Included in this plan she has a health check with one of our nurses.

We discussed dental care, grooming and weight recommendations among other things.

Lily was such a good pooch for her check up ❤️

Remember between October 1st and November 30th we are offering vet checks for senior patients as part of our senior wellness campaign.

For dogs 7 years and over and cats 9 years and over. You also get a complimentary urine sample tested.

You may be offered or recommend blood sampling. If you are part of our practice health plan this will be complimentary if you are not then it will discounted to 50% as part of the campaign.

These appointments give you the opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have with your aging pet.

We’ll be a little short-staffed on reception next week, so there may be some delays in answering phone calls, responding to messages and assisting you when you visit us.

Lovely Stanley has been coming in for injections to help with his sore joints. His owners had noticed him becoming more sore on longer walks. Luckily Stanley has seen some improvement on the injections which means we get to see more of him when he comes in regularly for them. 🫶

From October 1st through to the 30th November we are offering all our senior patients a senior wellness check 🐾

If your dog is over the age of 7 and cat over the age of 9 you may well have already received an email recommending you book in for a vet appointment. All patients who partake in this clinic will have a complementary urine test included.

Having your elderly pet regularly checked can give us the opportunity to pick problems up sooner rather than later. It also gives us the opportunity to speak with you as the owner to see if you have any worries or concerns about your aging pet. ❤️

You may also be offered wellness blood screening. If you are part of our pet health plan this is complementary if you are not then you will still get 50% discount on this.

We are already experiencing fireworks being let off around our Pentwyn branch in the evenings.

If you have an appointment coming up in the evening in either branch just be mindful that there may be fireworks. If you’d rather rearrange please just give us a call and we can look for a more suitable appointment for you.

Symptoms such as stiffness, limping, struggling to jump and reluctance to walk can indicate underlying osteoarthritis – a painful condition caused by degeneration and inflammation of the joints.
