May is BVNA (The British Veterinary Nursing Association) Veterinary Nursing awareness month and this year's theme is compassion.

But what is compassion?

Compassion is a deep feeling of sympathy and sorrow for another person's suffering, paired with a genuine desire to help ease their pain. It literally translates to "suffering together" and turns emotional empathy into an active drive to support those in need.

Veterinary Nursing is built on compassion.

1. Compassion for animals, our patients, wildlife, strays, rescues.
2. Compassion for their owners and pet owners in general.
3. Compassion for eachother, our friends, our work colleagues, our colleagues in other surgeries.

Every work day, every scenario, every patient, every owner, every member of staff.

🐾✨ Celebrating Veterinary Receptionists Week! ✨🐾
This week, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible people who keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes — our amazing veterinary receptionists!
A very special mention goes to Alison, our dedicated receptionist here at Bridges! Alison is often the first friendly face you see and the reassuring voice you hear. Her compassion, organisation, and commitment make a real difference to both our clients and their beloved pets every single day.
From managing busy schedules to offering a comforting word when it’s needed most, Alison truly goes above and beyond — and we’re so lucky to have her as part of our team.
Thank you, Alison, for everything you do! ❤️

Rabbits aren’t just for Easter 🐰

The “Easter Bunny” image is super cute. But when this kind of image prompts people to go out and buy one on a whim, it seldom ends well…for the poor rabbit. 😔

Every rabbit needs another rabbit to live with, for starters. They can live 8–12 years and throughout this time, they also need the right kind of food to thrive and enough space to run, hop and stretch. A hutch is simply not enough.

The sad story is that hundreds of these intelligent animals end up abandoned or in rescues, once people realise just how much care and consideration they really need. Others live a lonely life in too-small housing – pretty much ignored once the novelty wears off.

So, if you’re tempted to get yourself an Easter Bunny this year, please buy a chocolate one, or a toy one instead? 🙏
