Did you know that we offer socialisation visits at Smart?

This lovely big eared boy is Apollo 🥰 He has had some previous experiences in vets which have made him quite nervous, so he came for a visit before his initial appointment to get to know our team and get the lay of the land!

Here he is having a good sniff and explore of the treadmill room, and giving a token smooch to Laura our animal care assistant 💙

If you have a sensitive dog or cat, and are worried about them coping in a new veterinary environment, please get in touch and we can organise a quiet time at the clinic where your pet can acclimatise at their own pace before their initial appointment.

Favourite Activities: Agility, chasing the hose, and getting all the cuddles!
Favourite Toy: A good tuggy ball or a soft toy made for "destuffing."
Favourite Treat: Definitely partial to a bit of cheese. 🧀
Special Talent: He is an agility pro - so clever he’ll actually correct his owner if the cue doesn't match the move!

Owner’s report: Draven is my soul dog. While he was a confident puppy, a difficult experience with a previous vet made him very wary of being handled. He now has a small, trusted circle of friends who have taken the time to earn his trust. He is the most driven, clever, and cuddly boy I have ever known, and I adore him beyond words. Sian at Smart Vet Physio got him straight away - without her unwavering support and patience, we wouldn’t be where we are now."

To accommodate Draven's sensitivity to formal handling, we built a relationship outside the clinic first. Armed with tasty treats, our patience soon paid off! As an agility Collie, slowing Draven down to engage his muscles correctly made a massive difference in his proprioceptive enhancement. This lovely little Spaniel lady has gone from 19.80kg down to 14.35kg! How incredible is that?! 🐾

Losing over 27% of her body weight is a massive achievement. Sookie looks fantastic, and is also feeling the benefits in her joints, her energy levels, and her overall quality of life. Extra weight puts significant strain on a dog's frame, so this transformation is a huge win for her long-term health!

Our head Vet completed the Skanda Vale Hospice Fire Walk at the weekend, and she described the experience as nothing short of uplifting and amazing!

Walking across hot coals was a tribute to the memory of Bob, and a massive "thank you" to the team at Skanda Vale for the incredible support they provided during his battle with MND.

Pet of the Month: Troye! 🌟

Favourite activities: Swimming (pre-injury!) and eating!
Favourite toy: Before his injury, he loved chasing his ball around the field.
Favourite treat: Cheese!
Special talent: Persuading anyone that he definitely needs another treat, even if he's just had one!
Owners report: Troye is a six year old Cockapoo who loves to show his affection by giving everyone kisses! Thanks to everyone at SMART for helping Troye in his long recovery. The team are great.

Troye is a total superstar who has been working through a complex orthopaedic recovery. Following an advanced specialist review, he was diagnosed with bilateral cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) ruptures and bilateral Grade 4 lateral patella luxation.

He has just completed his second major surgery - a Cranial Closing Wedge Osteotomy (CCWO) - and has been an absolute joy to have as an inpatient here at Smart Clinic 💙

The Importance of "Pre-hab"
Troye’s progress is a great example of how physiotherapy and rehabilitation aren't just for after surgery. Starting a rehab program before a procedure can significantly accelerate recovery. By building muscle strength and maintaining joint flexibility early on, the body is much better equipped to heal once the surgery is complete.

A Huge Shout-out to Troye’s Owners
Recovering from bilateral injuries takes a lot of heart and hard work. Troye’s owners have been doing a fantastic job managing his post-operative care and keeping him on track. Their dedication is the reason Troye is doing so well!
