Love this and had to nick and share….

In this photo you see two species, a human and a dog. The human has approximately 1 billion neurons in their brain while the canine has appoximately 500 million. This is a comparison of the two species and the silly expectations people place on dogs:

1) Human - Given two plus years to accomplish potty training.
1) Canine - Human wants canine potty trainined in two weeks or they will have to rehome the dog....Please take the diaper off your eight month old human and let them crawl around your floor, lets just see the results....

2) Human - Gives human babies pain relievers and various numbing agents to help appease the pain of teething.
2) Canine - Punished for chewing on things that they find that eases their pain.

3) Human - Encourages young humans to run and play with endless forms of mental and physical stimulation.
3) Canine - “I have got to teach this dog to calm down!!!”

4) Human - Given 20 plus years to complete an education and become a productive member of society.
4) Canine - Expected to behave flawlessly for life after taking just one six week obedience class.

5) Human - Given sick and personal days from work and endless excuses for poor performance.
5) Canine - Expected to perfom perfectly 365 days a year with no questions asked. Canines are also not allowed to feel bad or forget.

6) Human - Expects a pay raise anually for the job they perform.
6) Canine - Humans demand their dog perform better every year without continued education and also don’t believe they should reward the dog for the work they perform.

Canines are used everyday to keep us humans safe in a multitude of ways.
-They are our eyes when ours go dark~
-They are our ears when ours fall silent~
-They are our noses to help find bombs, drugs, cancer, and allergens to keep us safe from harm~
-They are trained to alert us to an oncoming seizure or low blood sugar attack~
-They help find missing victims of natural and man-made disasters~
They protect us from harm everyday, without expecting healthcare, a raise, a title, a better car, a bigger office or one with a view, and….they do this for us all because of their innate desire to please.
Their unconditional love is without bounds.
They deserve that in return and so much more~

Dear human....If you don’t train, don’t complain, you’re to blame.

Use a natural blend of herbs in food daily. I like the one from … plus a natural dog flea and tick repellent spray on the coat.

Make sure it’s made for specifically dogs and spray at the base of the tail, between the shoulder blades, nape of the neck and behind the ears.

Apart from the obvious love of canines, transforming the relationship between dog and owner is just the best, especially if there’s been a bit of a breakdown in the relationship.

Some dogs can be really tricky. Whether it’s behaviours inside or outside of the home bugging you, or training isn’t quite going the way you’d hoped, it can be frustrating and disheartening.

But, if you’re struggling living with your dog, they’re definitely going to be struggling living in your world!

When the communication becomes clear, simple & you understand things from your dogs perspective, it can change gear in your relationship. There’s frequently “that moment” where I see the energy totally shift between the dog and owner, where they just get each other, which is just magical!

Are you getting nowhere fast with your training and feel like you’re constantly failing your dog?

I often find it’s the smallest of tweaks that can totally change gear on an owners training journey.

Sometimes, you just need support or guidance in person, to see exactly what’s tripping you up.

Often what we think we’re teaching our dog, is totally different from what they are actually learning from us!

Great first session with these 2!

They’re settling really well in their new home & think it’s safe to say, absolutely loved their training session!

Snoop was a little skittish when I arrived but soon switched when they both became so focussed on training.

Great enthusiasm from both the dogs and owners so good stars all around! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

If I’d known 11 years, what I know now, I’d have done things very differently. Although, as a “rescue” dog, you sign a contract to get it done.

Like lots of you have heard me say with dog training, timing is everything!
Studies have shown that if neutering needs to be done, there is often an age where it can be less damaging physically and emotionally/ cognitively & thanks to Holisticvet Ltd. the chart below is a great help for knowing how to keep your dog healthy and minimise the effects.

Not just with neutering but my experience has led to believe that everything that’s become routine and normalised with our dogs, needs to be re thought…

Following on from national rescue dog day, we have lots of handy tips and advice to help you even before you bring your rescue home.

Don’t underestimate the time it will take for the dog to decompress, especially if the dog has had a long journey to get to you.

In general, you’ll get there faster by having a slower, more gentle approach, with most rescue dogs.
No matter what the situation they’ve come from, there’s been a breakdown of trust somewhere along the line and your duty as their new guardian is to help them trust again but it can take time.
There are so many things we can show you to build a great bond with your new dog.

To all the dogs that have been given a second chance & have given us humans a second chance to get it right, you change lives. Thank you!
With a bit of calm, space and understanding, most dogs can adapt well to living with us humans, even if they have been previously let down.
Let’s not forget the families who’ve been heartbroken having to give up their dogs, for many reasons.
