Alex Walks Dogs - Cardiff

16/09/2026

I am very pleased to be a member of The Modern Dog Walkers Association (MDWA), having completed the certification earlier this year.

The course covered many important topics in the dog walking industry.

Including: knowledge of the
law, risk assessments, canine welfare, canine behaviour and behaviour change, introducing dogs to each other, dog body language and handling.
The MDWA is "The largest professional body supporting and representing professional dog walkers in the UK

With more and more dog walkers entering the market, increasing media and governmental pressure, higher reports of dog theft and bite incidents - the need for professional, qualified and ethical dog walkers to stand out from the crowd has never been stronger

The MDWA works closely with its advisory board of experienced, respected industry professionals from animal welfare, police and Local Council liaison backgrounds."

So important

No dog should become injured or lose their life for entertainment.

Which is why today we are proud to stand alongside the RSPCA (England & Wales) and Blue Cross, in calling for a phased end to greyhound racing in the UK. Over the last four years, more than 2,000 greyhounds died and racing dogs sustained almost 18,000 injuries which is simply not acceptable.

We’ve worked closely with the greyhound industry for many years to try to improve welfare conditions for the dogs, but progress has not been made quickly enough, or on a big enough scale. We are fully committed to the welfare of all greyhounds affected by our call for a phased end to the sport. We will continue to work collaboratively with the industry and other stakeholders to ensure the welfare of dogs is not compromised while working towards this.

☀️🥵

⚠️WEATHER WARNING: EXTREME HEAT⚠️

Arthur here with a PSA. The next 3 days are due to be extremely hot. Please do not take your fur babies out in this heat it’s just not worth the risk.

Tips on keeping your pooch cool:
❄️ Keep them indoors. Only allow your dog in the garden for toilet breaks.
❄️ Use cooling mats or wet towels for your dog to lie on.
❄️ Keep blinds/curtains closed to keep rooms cool.
❄️ Keep your pooch entertained with frozen kongs, puzzle games or indoor training games.
❄️ If you absolutely must walk your dog please do so before 8am or after 10pm. Test the tarmac before you walk, if you can’t comfortably keep the back of your hand on the floor for 10 seconds it’s too hot.

Stay safe guys.
