We were lucky enough to convince Emma of Scentwork to come back and run another one of her amazing truffle hunting workshops.

The morning (photos to follow) were teams who took part in the last workshop and the afternoon was for those who had never done his before. We had teams of varying experience levels but all were amazing!!!
The best sort of day - time with dogs and like minded people and a HUGE bottle of gnat spray!

SEARCH WHERE I TASK

One of the skills that I believe is really valuable is the dog searching where the handler tasks them and I think this is extremely important at the very start.

You can see from the first video that Tic is racing past the start task in her enthusiasm which is not what I want so we worked on this and you can see from the video in the comments where I ended the session yesterday.

That doesn’t mean micromanaging the dog or taking away their independence. Quite the opposite. A good search should be a partnership.

At the beginning of a search, I want to be able to indicate an area and have my dog genuinely investigate it — not simply head off to wherever they fancy searching first.

If I task a dog to a particular section and they immediately dismiss my direction, I’ve lost a useful part of our teamwork.

Of course, once the search develops, the dog’s information becomes increasingly important. If they leave the area I’ve tasked because they’ve picked up odour elsewhere, I absolutely want them to follow that information.

And that’s the important distinction.

Ignoring the handler isn’t the same as independent searching.

Had a venue booked that i forgot to advertise so i spent a blissful few hours with my own dogs.
I have a training plan for all of them from what I observed today.

Tonight Sue took advantage on the light evenings and held a Foundation trial at Canvey.
It was lovely seeing some familiar faces and some new faces starting out on their Scentwork journeys.
