Hi all, this is an update I never wanted to give. Toast has passed.
Her condition was worsening, with new symptoms that were hard to explain appearing. She underwent exploratory surgery as a last resort, and from this it was confirmed she had little to no hope - whatever was affecting her was neurological, developing fast, and shutting down her organs. We knew the surgery itself was risky, and that she may not come out the other side of it, but we had reached a point we had exhausted other options and wanted to try absolutely everything we could for her.
Vik and I were able to spend time with her before her surgery, and we take comfort having had those last few hours cuddling with her, and knowing that she had not yet reached a point of being in pain.
We want to thank Nikki of Canterbury Veterinary Surgery for going above and beyond, as usual, and being there for her surgery also, so we know she had a familiar face with her right up until the end.
Toasts sunset was vibrant and bold, albeit relatively small, just as she was. She is sorely missed, her unique mix of cheek, smarts, and sweetness a massive loss to us all.
Thank you to everyone for your outpouring of love and support for Toast, and I’m so so sorry this isn’t the outcome everyone was rooting for.

Hey all, I’ve got some news to share about Toast.
On Monday she had a fall and as was taken to the vets as didn’t seem to want to move. She came home with pain meds and was kept in monitoring, nothing seemed broken, just pain and shock. Monday afternoon I checked on her and she didn’t seem right. She was examined again and re-admitted. Shes now been in vet care over 48 hours including 2 overnight stays. So much has happened since Monday, and the fall itself appears to have been a symptom, rather than a cause. We’ve had lots of confusing results from a wide range of tests, at both Canterbury Veterinary Surgery and Briar House, and everyone involved is struggling to find answers, it’s a confusing case. What to do next is uncertain as any route we choose has high risks and we don’t know what will actually help, as we still don’t know solidly what is wrong. We were hoping to wait until she was better to post the full update, but at this point we don’t know what is going to happen. Vik and I (Pip) are on our way to see her again now, and talk again about next steps. We will try and update as we know more. The whole team is very worried. It’s a hot one!! 🌞 In the interests of safety for our team, guests & resident cat crew, we are closing early today (last session 4pm!) will be closed all day tomorrow, & last session starts 2pm on Friday.
We reopen with usual hours on Saturday - once this heat has cooled off a bit 🫶🏻

HE MADE IT 🥳 Cheez has completed his FIP treatment and is BACK in the cafe for cuddles and playtime!! ✨
He has one final full spectrum bloods to triple check everything, but his last 2 full panels came back perfect, he has put on weight, hasn’t had fluid for months, has completed his 84day treatment, and has been slowly integrated back to the cat crew upstairs areas over the last month 🫶🏻 (as well as meeting the newbies - stay tuned for more 👀
This is a massive win for him, and us all here at CTCC as we were honestly struggling to find hope around the time of diagnosis, as our experience with FIP last year devastated us with the loss of Bao 🖤 So we could not be more proud of our CheezieWiggs for pulling through ✨

At Canterbury Tails, Pride isn’t just something we celebrate one day a year; kindness, acceptance and creating a space where everyone belongs is something we build every day.

But today especially we’re also celebrating something very important…

🎂 Happy 8th Birthday to Waffle! 🎂

Our weird little guy has had a bit of a rollercoaster year health-wise (lots of pancreatic issues), but we’re so proud of how far he’s come. After everything he’s been through, it’s great to see him chunking up, feeling more comfortable, with more life in him again.

So while we’re celebrating Canterbury Pride today, we’re also celebrating Waffle, his resilience, and another year of being one of the most wonderfully odd little boys we know. ❤️

Please join us in wishing Mr Wiffwaff a very happy birthday! 🎉🐾
