To round off the week, we welcomed two sweet regulars in for their full grooms — a gorgeous Biewer Terrier and a lovely Cockerpoo.

We also had a number of Emmi-Pet teeth maintenance cleans to help keep those smiles fresh and healthy.

Today I had the pleasure of welcoming two gorgeous puppies for their very first grooms — a beautiful Cavapoo and a handsome Cocker Spaniel!

Both little ones received one of my exclusively personally made First Groom Milestone Rosettes — a special little keepsake to celebrate such an important milestone in their grooming journey.

Why are first grooms so important?

A puppy’s first grooming experiences can shape how they feel about grooming for the rest of their lives.

The aim isn’t simply to make them look beautiful — it’s about building trust, confidence and positive associations with grooming, handling, the equipment, sounds and sensations involved.

Starting early and introducing grooming gradually helps puppies learn that being handled around their face, ears, paws, legs and body is a normal part of life. This can make future grooming appointments much less stressful for both the dog and their owner.

Regular grooming from an appropriate age also helps owners and groomers monitor things such as coat condition, ears, paws, nails, skin and any changes that may need attention.

Today’s other lovely regulars included a Cocker Spaniel, who came in for their routine grooming — plus Emmi-pet teeth-cleaning maintenance, and a sweet Cockerpoo who also came in for her regular Emmi-pet teeth-cleaning maintenance.

Dental care isn’t something that should only be thought about when there is already a problem.

Teeth cleaning and dental maintenance can be beneficial at different stages of a dog’s life, including puppies when appropriate, as well as adult and senior dogs. Starting good habits early can help make oral care a normal part of their routine.

Regular maintenance is important because plaque can build up on the teeth and, if left, can contribute to tartar and gum problems. Keeping on top of oral hygiene at home and through suitable professional maintenance can help support a healthier mouth.

For puppies, introducing gentle oral-care routines early can also help them become comfortable with having their mouth and teeth handled — making dental care easier as they grow.

A few of the lovely dogs I’ve seen this week for their regular Emmi-Pet maintenance follow-up clean appointments.

That little red line along the gum can be an early sign of gingivitis — inflammation caused by bacteria in plaque. Catching it early is important, as untreated gum disease can progress and cause irreversible damage.

Regular maintenance is important even after a veterinary dental clean. Once your dog is home, plaque begins to build again, so ongoing care and good home hygiene are essential.

The Emmi-Pet ultrasonic toothbrush is silent and vibration-free, helping reduce bacteria and plaque while supporting healthier gums.

It was lovely to see a selection of my regulars again this week for their grooms and maintenance emmi-pet teeth cleaning.

Regular monthly emmi-pet teeth cleaning can make a real difference to keeping your dog’s teeth cleaner and supporting their oral health.

Plaque can start building up again surprisingly quickly after a clean. If it isn’t regularly managed, it can harden into tartar, making it much more difficult to remove.

A little weekend round-up

Two lovely regulars 6-year-old Border Terrier, and 5-year-old Cairn Terrier came in with lovely blown coats ready for hand stripping — one of my absolute favourite services to do!

I love hand stripping because it’s not just about how beautiful the finished coat looks, it helps maintain the natural texture, colour and function of the terrier coat. Removing the dead outer coat encourages the new coat to come through and helps preserve that proper harsh, weather-resistant texture that terriers are known for, and I love being able to work with the coat rather than simply removing it.

The Border Terrier also had his first Emmi-Pet ultrasonic teeth initial consultation and deep clean. I include a before and after photo.

Two sweet Cockerpoo's, 5 and 6-year-old also came in for their scheduled full grooms and left looking fresh, happy and relaxed — exactly how I like to see them!

Every dog’s coat, skin, teeth and grooming needs are different, which is why regular appointments and a tailored maintenance routine are so important. It’s not just about making them look good — it’s about keeping them comfortable, healthy and happy between visits too.
