If your dog groomer asks the exact same questions at every drop-off, it’s not just small talk, it’s a quick check-in for your pup’s well-being!

When we ask, “Has anything changed since their last groom?”, we are looking out for subtle details that could impact their appointment. Have they been under the weather? Has their routine changed? Did you recently move house or welcome a new family member?

Dogs are creatures of habit. A small shift in their everyday life might feel minor to us, but it can make them feel extra anxious or act differently on the grooming table.

We’ve recently seen pups react to small routine changes like a recent vet visit, a holiday trip, or simply being dropped off by a different family member.

Next time you pop in, don’t hesitate to mention the little things! It helps us tailor the grooming experience so your dog feels safe, comfortable, and cared for. 🐾✨

Let’s wash and groom George the Shih Tzu!

With their gorgeous, fast-growing coats, Shih Tzus are absolute royalty in the salon - but keeping that hair looking and feeling perfect requires the right routine! Whether your pup rocks a flowing show coat or a practical, adorable puppy cut, maintenance is key to keeping them mat-free and comfortable.

Here are our top 3 pro-tips for Shih Tzu coat care:

The Daily Brush is Essential 🧼

Because their hair is so fine, it mats incredibly easily (especially around the ears, friction areas like the armpits, and where their harness sits). A daily brush with a slicker brush and a line-combing technique right to the skin keeps knots at bay.

Eyes & Face Maintenance 👀

Those big, beautiful eyes are a signature feature, but they are prone to staining and irritation from facial hair. Wipe their eyes daily with a damp, warm cloth and keep the hair between their eyes trimmed short (or tied up in a neat top-knot) to prevent tear-staining.

Don’t Forget the Sanitary Trim & Pads 🐾

Because they are low to the ground and carry a lot of coat, things can get messy fast! Regular trips to the salon for a “hygiene trim” and cleaning out the hair between their paw pads keeps them clean, hygienic, and slipping-free on hard floors.

Routine grooming every 4–6 weeks ensures their coat stays manageable, their skin stays healthy, and they stay looking like the absolute icons they are! 💖
