I thought it was about time I properly introduced myself!
I’m Jordan, the human behind Down to Earth Dog Care!
Although we moved to Callington in 2018, my mum’s side of the family comes from Pensilva, and this little corner of Cornwall has always felt like home to me.
When I’m not working, I’m a mum to two girls who are absolutely my world, and a huge part of why I chose this new path. I also have an incredibly supportive husband, who I’ve known for over 20 years and has my back at every turn.
My working life has been… varied, to say the least 😂 I’ve been a barmaid, a cleaner, end-of-life care assistant, trainee dental nurse and spent several years working in infant feeding, including as a coordinator — plus a few others along the way!
I’ve worked with elderly people at the end of their lives, supported new parents and babies, worked alongside volunteers and professionals, and dealt with just about every kind of person you can imagine.
Honestly, I’ve worked with enough people now that I decided I’d rather work with dogs 🤣🫣
After burning myself out trying to build a career I was incredibly passionate about, I reached a point where I needed to start again. Down to Earth Dog Care gave me a way to get outside, improve my health, spend more time with my family and, if I’m honest, give my brain a bit of a reset too.
These days, I spend my time getting muddy with dogs around Callington and the surrounding areas, offering walks and check-ins tailored to the individual animal in front of me.
And the name? Well, that was actually quite deliberate 😂
When I was trying to come up with a name, I wanted something simple, memorable and… well, down to earth. Something that felt like me and the kind of business I wanted to build.
Because I’m really not a fancy lady 🤣
I wanted something that felt friendly, approachable and uncomplicated — and Down to Earth Dog Care just seemed to fit.
And of course… there are the dogs.
I’ve been around dogs my entire life. I grew up with Rottweilers, German Shepards and Staffies, and over the years I’ve also had a Husky, a Dalmatian cross and a collie cross. These days, our home is run by five rescue dogs:
🐾 Frank — our 9-year-old Lurcher. A big, sensitive boy with some equally big feelings, but underneath it all he’s an enormous snuggle monster who absolutely adores his people.
🐾 Dexter — our 8-year-old Springer x Retriever and resident wally 😂 He’s a lovely boy… but also an absolute nightmare to walk.
🐾 Holly — our 5-year-old Pulin. Holly was homeless and travelled a very long way before arriving with us as a foster… and becoming our very definite failed foster!
🐾 Koko — our nervous little 3-year-old something fluffy. We call her Bean… as in Koko Bean… cocoa bean. Get it?!
🐾 Ozzy — also 3 and my absolute soul dog. My little sausage roll.
Living with five very different rescue dogs has taught me more than any course ever could about adapting to the dog in front of you. Dogs don’t all fit into the same box, and that’s something I carry into every walk and visit I do.
I know just how much our animals mean to us, and I don’t take being trusted with someone else’s pet lightly.
I’m fully insured, enhanced DBS checked and canine first aid trained. My previous work has also given me experience and training in safeguarding and su***de first aid, amongst plenty of other things. I think every job, experience and slightly chaotic chapter of my life has helped shape who I am and the way I care for others.
I love old trucks, woodland stomps and being outdoors, and chocolate cheesecake is pretty much the way to my heart 😂
So that’s me.
A slightly chaotic collection of careers, qualifications, rescue dogs, muddy boots and big feelings — trying to build a little business around something I genuinely love.
And honestly? I’m really glad you’re here.
