For those worried about Mannie and his injury ... you can't keep a Mustang down for long 🤭

14, 18 and today, 22 October. 😊👍👍 It's healing beautifully. I have used mostly Leucillin, twice per day and a dusting of wound powder to keep the flies away. Every few days I flush the wound with diluted betadine and clean the crud from around the wound area. I have to give him a bit of sedation for this, but on the whole he's been a brave little soldier. And he lets me spray and apply the wound powder without much fuss and a treat. Gotta love the little guy! 😍

It's not all flowers and roses, breeding horses unfortunately. On the second day with the herd, young Maverick had an accident. He was squeezed going through the big gate and tore his hip open. 😞
The vet came out and did a wonderful job of cleaning and suturing it. However, Mannie and his mom couldn't leave it alone, and the wound started breaking down. So for the past two weeks I have been cleaning it and flushing it and slowly it has started forming granulation tissue. The poor guy got caught on a square plate of a hinge, which shouldn't have been there in the first place. But until something like this happens, you're blind to it. 😔
Anyway, just to reassure everyone, he is sound, running around and playing like nothing happened. It will eventually close up, and hopefully he won't have a scar, ,,.my brave little warrior heart. ❤️

Young Samson learning what it's all about... Some things he takes to really well, others will take a bit more time and confidence.

And we have some good news to share! Samson is reserved to go and live in Wales with his new human! 😊👍❤️

And this also happened yesterday... Little Maverick and Star joined Joey's herd. He's got his hands full now! Four mares and 2 kids! 😜😂 He can deal though, with his laid back temperament.

It's been a long time for both of us... 6+ years for Honey and at least 4 years since I last sat in the saddle. Just a little walk around the paddock to start for me to learn about her and her about me. Honey has had a hard time this year with EMS and resulting laminitis episodes. She's all clear at the moment and the last couple of months have been about medication and strictly controlled diet. I've now found an appropriate low sugar haylage that I can afford to feed to a group. Starting to ride will help to keep weight off her and get her metabolism going in the right direction. There's only so much lungeing a Spanish Mustang will do!🙄😂

As some of you may know, Samson has been with Phil Hearn in Devon for about 5 weeks. The main aim was for him to accept the vet and be castrated. This was achieved today, thanks to Phil's hard work and careful planning and two intrepid vets who did a laying down castration.
He will make a good gelding and should make someone a devoted horse.
He will be for sale once he's healed and can travel. He can be seen at Phil's, where you could book a few lessons to learn how Phil has been training him.
