Meet Chester!
Chester is quite known with ourselves and other dog walkers for our services but this time round, the owner needed 1:1 sessions.
This wonderful boy can be a fantastic dog to walk for other handlers but around the owner, Chester is spicy! 🌶️
Reactive to dogs, traffic and whilst travelling in the car.
Whilst advice has been given to try for the travelling issue, we have done a full session followed our assessment on leash walking reactivity.
Within one session we improved the leash walking and reactivity.
Passing dogs and was able to walk closer along a 30 mph road.
Alongside great heal work.
AMAZING right!?
As much as I could talk how incredible this session was and what a quick learner they were.
It’s important to recognise and express that one great session can fall into disappointment that reactivity will happen again and potentially worse.
I will always reassure you this normal and a quick fix in one session can cause damage to behaviour and your bond.
These behaviours are not a quick fix.
If the homework is not followed, duration of their own personal sessions are shortened and reading your dogs body language. Then, you will set your dog up to fail.
In my sessions, I point out rewards, timings and when to call it quits or give breaks.
Breaks are the important one so that you can succeed in a 45 min time period and finish on a good note.
I never like to put a negative touch on any of these sessions, especially because I can’t praise more highly!
However, some things need to be made clear so you can see them from all perspectives.
But I am SUPER proud of this session and the owner even proved how much more confident she was.
Chester and the owners are not out of the woods yet but I will review with them in 2 weeks to see how they are getting on 💛
