As temperatures rise, it’s important to help keep your dog safe and comfortable this summer!
Here are some of our top tips:
1. Walk during cooler parts of the day
2. Provide plenty of fresh water
3. Ensure access to shade
4. Never leave dogs in parked vehicles
5. Avoid strenuous exercise in hot weather
6. The 5-second pavement test (keep reading to find out more about this)
Asphalt and concrete absorb heat and can burn paw pads long before the air feels dangerously hot. To check, place the back of your hand flat against the pavement and hold it there for 5 to 7 seconds. If the surface is too hot for your skin, it is too hot for your dog’s paws.
Signs of heatstroke can include:
🚨 Excessive panting
🚨 Drooling
🚨 Lethargy
🚨 Vomiting
🚨 Collapse
Heatstroke is an emergency and can become life-threatening very quickly.
