🐾✨ Firework Season: Helping Your Pets Stay Calm ✨🐾
Firework season is upon us and can be a stressful time for our pets. With celebrations and displays taking place on different nights, the noise can continue right through to New Year — so it’s important to be prepared and help your pets feel as safe and comfortable as possible.
Pets can show anxiety in lots of different ways, including:
🐾 Shaking or hiding
🐾 Vocalising or whining
🐾 Holding their ears back
🐾 Reduced appetite
🐾 Restlessness or unusual behaviour
🐾 In some cases, becoming more defensive or aggressive
🎆 Our top tips for a calmer fireworks season:
🏠 Create a safe space
Set up a quiet, comfortable area where your pet can retreat and feel secure. Their favourite bed, blanket or toys can help make it feel familiar.
😌 Stay calm yourself
Pets can pick up on our emotions, so try to remain calm and relaxed when the fireworks start. Your reassurance can make a big difference.
🔒 Keep pets indoors
Make sure dogs and cats are safely indoors before the fireworks begin, and ensure doors, windows and cat flaps are secure.
🎾 Provide distractions
Toys, treats, enrichment activities or some gentle background noise, such as the TV or radio, can help distract from those unexpected bangs and pops.
