2 You can choose fish from over 70 Tropical stock aquariums. Each is individually filtered, meaning that disease can not spread from one tank to another.

3 All fish are sourced from quality suppliers, and are quarantined for at least 7 days before sold.

4 Aquariums are regularly cleaned and maintained, with regular water quality checks.

5 Our fish are fed a wide variety of foods, including dry, live and frozen. This means they are in top physical condition before they leave us.

We've had the most beautiful display of Pygmy Helvola in one of our patio ponds this summer 🌸

Nymphaea Helvola is one of our favourite water lilies — a true miniature with delicate pale yellow flowers and burgundy-mottled leaves. Perfect for a patio pond, half barrel or any small water feature. It doesn't need a big space — just still water, decent light and a bit of patience.

If you've been thinking about adding a water lily to a container or patio pond, Helvola is the one to start with.

We also stock larger varieties for bigger ponds — from vibrant pinks and rich crimsons through to classic whites. Whether you're working with a barrel or a full garden pond, there's a lily for every size.

🐟 Fish Friday — and this week it's the gorgeous Green Neon Tetra!

Fish of the Month deal: 5 for £13 (usually £3.50 each) — a great way to start or add to a shoal.

Green Neons are one of those fish that just make a planted tank come alive. That electric blue stripe running the full length of the body is stunning, especially under good lighting with dark substrate. They're a step up from the regular Neon Tetra — slightly smaller, more slender, and the colouring is arguably even more striking.

A few things to know:
🌡️ Temperature: 24–26°C
💧 pH: 6.0–7.0
💦 Water hardness: Soft water — ideally GH 1–8 dGH
🌿 Setup: Planted tank with some cover — they feel much more confident and show better colour
🍽️ Feeding: Micro pellets, small frozen or live foods — and as you can see they go absolutely mad for a treat tablet!

Keep them in a group of 5 or more — a shoal of Green Neons really is something special to watch.

👋 We realised we've never properly introduced ourselves on here — so here's a little about who we are!

We're Byrkley Aquatics, based at Byrkley Garden Centre in Burton on Trent. We stock tropical and coldwater fish, pond fish, aquatic plants, shrimp and everything you need for aquariums and ponds — all selected and quality checked by us.

Our very best Betta supplier has sent me loads of videos this morning.

We are suckers for Male Betta. We do not really have any room for more. But we are going to have to make some space. I cannot restrain myself from ordering a few.

Sneaky little taster video here. Give us a shout if you might be interested!!!

These are not arriving till next week. They are premium Male Betta with a premium price.

We do however have lots of stunning great quality Betta in store ready to go, at reasonable prices too. We will be sharing more videos of these over the next couple of days.

☀️ It's still hot out there — and your pond fish are feeling it.

Warm water holds significantly less oxygen than cold water, and at night it gets even worse — plants stop photosynthesising once the sun goes down, but your fish and beneficial bacteria keep on consuming oxygen around the clock.

This is when an air pump or air stone can make a real difference.

Signs your pond might be short on oxygen:
🐟 Fish gasping at the surface, especially in the morning
😴 Lethargic or listless fish
🐠 Fish congregating near waterfalls or fountains

An air pump keeps oxygen levels consistent through the night when it matters most. If you've got a heavily stocked pond or you're seeing any of those signs — it's worth acting on sooner rather than later.
