We're really proud of the plant range we've built up — from easy beginner plants to more demanding species, invitro, potted, bunched, mosses and more. But we know there's always room to grow (no pun intended), and keeping our customers happy is what we're here for.

Our next Aquascaping Day is coming up and we would love to see you there! 🌿🪨

Whether you're a complete beginner or just want to learn more, this is a relaxed and friendly day where you can get hands on and discover what aquascaping is really all about.

What goes into creating an aquascape?

• Choosing the right tank size and shape for your vision
• Planning your layout — thinking about depth, balance and focal points
• Selecting your hardscape — rocks, wood and how to place them naturally
• Choosing the right substrate for plants to thrive
• Picking your plants — foreground, midground and background
• Planting and positioning for the best effect
• Filling, equipment and getting your tank cycling
• Lighting — what your plants need to grow

White cloud mountain minnow

A great shoaling peaceful fish. They are fairly undemanding and pretty easy to keep.

Do not mind cooler waters. But they do need to be kept in a group or shoal.

Have you ever watched zebra danios feed? 🐟

There's nothing quite like the energy they bring to a tank. Fast, active and always on the go — zebra danios are one of our favourite fish to recommend, especially for beginners.

They're incredibly hardy, easy to feed and love being kept in a group. The movement and life they bring to a community tank is brilliant to watch.

If you've been thinking about adding some fish to your aquarium, these little guys are a great place to start. Come in and see us — we'd love to help.

This or That — Red Plants vs Green Plants 🌿

Two very different looks for your aquascape. Which side are you on?

Red Plants
There's nothing quite like a splash of red in a planted tank. Rich reds, deep burgundies, bright oranges — they create incredible contrast and really make a scape pop. The trade-off is that red plants tend to be more demanding. They need strong lighting to bring out that colour, CO2 will make a noticeable difference, and getting the iron and nutrient levels right is key. Get it right though and the results are stunning.

Green Plants
The backbone of most aquascapes. Incredibly versatile, available in every shade and texture you can think of, and generally much more forgiving. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced scaper, green plants work in almost any setup. Low light, high tech, CO2 or no CO2 — there's a green plant for every situation.

Of course, the best scapes often use both. A few carefully placed red plants amongst a sea of green can transform the whole look.
