IMPORTANT CUSTOMER NOTICE

We have recently become aware of a website operating at localpetsupply.co.uk using the name “Local Pet Supplies” and our former trading address

This website is not operated by, affiliated with, or authorised by us.

Our Local Pet Supplies business ceased trading several years ago. We are not currently selling products online or accepting customer orders or payments.

We have been contacted by members of the public who report having placed orders through that website and subsequently experienced problems receiving their goods.

The matter has now been reported to the appropriate organisations as suspected fraud and is being investigated.

If you have made a payment through that website and believe you have lost money, please contact your bank/card provider promptly and make your own report to Report Fraud.

Please do not post order confirmations, addresses, card information or other personal/financial information publicly on this page.

If you've contacted us believing we were responsible for your order, we're sorry this has happened. Although we cannot issue refunds because we did not receive your payment, we'll provide whatever appropriate information we can to help.

We have been notified that a poisonous plant is being used as decoration in a pot plant that can be purchased in garden centres and possibly florists.

The pot plant is Livistona rotundifolia (footstool palm; also known as Saribus rotundifolius) and pots of these plants are decorated with three fibrous balls. The balls are the skeletonised fruit of Cerbera odollam (su***de tree, pong-pong). Within each fruit is a kernel that is extremely toxic; a single kernel can be fatal if eaten and poses a risk to both pets and people. The toxic compounds in Cerbera odollam are cardiac glycosides, which are also found in foxglove, oleander, lily of the valley and other plants.

If you have these fibrous fruits in your pot plant, remove them and dispose of them safely. It you are worried your pet may have eaten the plant material contact Animal PoisonLine (01202 509 000)or your vet immediately.

December is right around the corner, and like us, our pets might need a little extra TLC over the winter months. ❤️ Here are some common winter hazards to look out for to keep your pet happy and safe:

🔐 Accidentally locking pets out. Not realising that our pets have followed us out of the back door has happened to the best of us, but in winter, it's even more important to make sure they can stay safe and warm inside.
❄️ Antifreeze and de-icer. Both are incredibly toxic for animals and can kill them. Keep antifreeze out of the reach of pets and clean up any spills thoroughly.
🥀 Poisonous plants. Festive favourites like holly, ivy and poinsettia are all toxic to pets if they eat them. Keep them out of your pet's reach, or use artificial plants to decorate your home.
🥶 Snowy paws. Snow can build up on a pet's paws and cause discomfort, so prepare paws by keeping hair between pads trimmed so there's less hair for the snow to gather on.
🚘 Sheltering cats. Cats often shelter under cars or will even climb inside the bonnet beside a warm engine. Always check your vehicle for visitors or knock on the bonnet before you start it.
🧂 Salt and grit. Wash your pet's paws if they come into contact with salt and grit, as it can be irritating. Applying a thin layer of paw butter to your dog's pads could also help protect them from drying out or cracking.

📣 From 17th November, the way we rehome dogs is changing.

We want all dogs to have a loving home, and we know you want that too 🏠💛

We regularly review how we work, and we’re always listening to your feedback, and we know many people are often left disappointed when they haven’t been successful in adopting the dog they want.

With years of rehoming experience behind us, we’re moving to an exciting new process which will mean an equal chance for all dogs to find a family and more dog lovers able to welcome to a Dogs Trust dog into their home 🐶

Share this with your friends and family to let them know, too.

Please note, while we change over to our new system, rehoming applications will be paused from 10th-16th November and our rehoming centres will be closed from 14th-17th November, reopening on 18th November.
