Did you know that on a typical 24°C (75°F) day, the temperature inside a parked car can soar to 49°C (120°F) in less than 20 minutes? 🥵

Even more shocking: research shows that 1 in 7 dogs treated for heat stroke by a veterinarian sadly do not survive. With global temperatures reaching record highs lately, the “danger zone” for our furry friends is happening faster than ever before.

Because dogs can’t sweat like we do, they rely almost entirely on panting to cool down. As it gets extremely hot, it’s our job to be their first line of defense.

Monitoring your dog in the heat is crucial, as their temperature can spike to dangerous levels in minutes.
🥵 Here are 10 key signs of heat stroke:

- Heavy, frantic panting: Labored or extremely fast breathing.
- Bright red gums: Deep red or purple color.
- Thick, ropey drool: Excessive, sticky saliva or foam.
- Glazed or bloodshot eyes: Dazed and unfocused expression.
- Rapid, racing heart rate: Heart beating noticeably fast.
- Weakness or stumbling: Loss of physical coordination.
- Vomiting or diarrhea: Sudden onset of gastric distress.
- Extreme lethargy: Unwillingness or inability to move.
- High body temperature: Feeling hot to the touch.

Please share this to your story, it could literally save a life today.

🕷️ TICK SEASON is officially here🕷️
Adult ticks, which are approximately the size of sesame seeds, are most active from March to mid-May and from mid-August to November.

The sun is shining, the birds are singing and the bugs are out in full force!
Whether you’re grooming, walking, boarding, or training, now’s the time to add a 🕷️ tick check 🕷️ to your routine.

Please look behind the ears, between the dogs toes, under their collars… and don’t forget the 🦷‼️ gum line ‼️🦷 ticks love hiding in the least expected spots!

It’s extremely important to check for ticks after dogs have spent time outdoors.
They carry Lyme disease, the POW virus and other deadly diseases that can leave human seriously ill too!!

If you spot a 🕷️

Slide the tool under the tick as close to the skin as possible.
Lift and twist: Apply a gentle, steady lifting and twisting motion. Avoid pulling directly upwards or squeezing the tick's body.
Remove the tick: The tick should detach after a few twists. Ensure you remove the entire tick, including the head.
- Clean the area with antiseptic or .

BE GRATEFUL FOR THE GROWL

Not all growling is a sign that a dog is unhappy. Some growls may be part of a particular play style, seeking attention, from frustration, excitement or other reasons. They may all sound a little different and may be unique to that particular dog.

This post is about the early warning growls.

When a dog growls, especially when it’s directed at us, it’s natural for us to feel offended, insulted or perhaps even angry.

Surely dogs need to learn not to growl - growling is bad, it’s unacceptable, a problem that needs to be stopped or punished so a dog learns that it’s wrong, disrespectful and unacceptable, right?

This couldn’t be further from the truth! A dog that growls has just provided us with very valuable information.

In their way, they have just told us how they feel about a situation in a non-violent way without escalating to a bite.

Dogs use growling in an attempt to avoid having to resort to biting, not to initiate it. They could just as easily not have even bothered to growl and gone straight to a bite.

A dog that growls is trying to communicate how they feel. Ignoring or punishing only suppresses this communication. Punishment increases fear, anxiety and stress.

A dog that bites without the warning of a growl is a far more serious problem than a dog that growls but doesn’t bite.

Look for any other early warning signals that may precede a growl. Learn to recognize body language and any specific situations that trigger it.

Be grateful for the gift of a growl – it’s clear communication that we need to acknowledge, understand and respect.

A growl allows us to intervene, advocate and prevent escalation.
