🐱💙 Could your cat be showing early signs of kidney disease?

At Black Rock Vets, we’re currently taking part in a clinical trial looking at Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in cats over the age of three — and we’re offering FREE kidney blood tests for eligible cats! 🩺🐾

You may not realise that your cat could be showing early signs. Things to look out for include:

💧 Drinking more than usual
🚽 Urinating more frequently or producing larger amounts of urine
⚖️ Weight loss
🍽️ Changes in appetite

Some cats can have kidney changes before they appear obviously unwell, which is why checking their kidney health can be so valuable.

If you think your cat could possibly have CKD, or you’ve noticed changes in their drinking or urination, get in touch with us to find out if they could take part.

🐾 The appointment and kidney blood test are completely FREE!

📞 Contact Black Rock Vets to book an appointment or find out more.

Please share this post to help us reach more cats who could benefit from having their kidney health checked. 💙🐱

Congratulations to the very handsome Max for reaching his target weight. Max and his owners have worked incredibly hard over the past 3 months and Max has lost 1.1kg. That may not sound like a lot but in fact he has actually lost 16.66% of his starting bodyweight! Incredible work and his owners are already seeing the benefit, Max has lots more energy and according to his owners he hasn’t even noticed that he has been on a diet! Another fabulous weight loss with our head nurse Emma! 🤩

A HUGE thank you to our clients (and even our non-clients!) who have taken the time out of their day to share such lovely messages and emails, and even pop in with gifts and cards to thank our staff for all that they do.

We have been so touched by all your incredible support, kind words and thoughtful gestures.

Your kindness and appreciation mean so much to the whole team. And, of course, the staff couldn’t resist tucking into the treats — they certainly didn’t last long!

Thank you for making our staff feel so valued and appreciated. It really does mean the world to us.

We really do have the BEST clients!

Team Black Rock 💕🐾

It’s Day 5 of Rabbit Awareness Week: Feeding Bunnies Better!🥬🐰

A rabbit that stops eating is often a rabbit that needs urgent veterinary attention. Changes in appetite can be an early sign of dental problems, stress, illness or gut stasis — which can quickly become serious.

Keep an eye on eating habits, droppings and behaviour, and always contact your vet if something feels wrong. Healthy rabbits start with prevention, proper nutrition and regular care.

As part of Rabbit Awareness Week (22nd-26th June 2026) we aim to increase pet owner awareness of the importance of yearly vaccinations for rabbits:

🐰 Myxomatosis is a widespread, life-threatening virus ⚠️

Cases are seen frequently in unvaccinated rabbits, causing tumour like swellings and decreases the rabbit’s ability to fight infection, so they tend to catch additional bacterial infections that cause severe respiratory disease.

The best way to protect your rabbit is with regular vaccinations throughout their life. This not only protects them, but also decreases the spread of disease. Give us a call today to check if your rabbit’s vaccinations are up to date - our reception telephone line is 01278 786602
