🐕 Is your dog struggling with chronic pain? ❤️‍🔥🐾

👀Watching your furry friend struggle with chronic pain is heartbreaking. ❤️‍🩹 Conditions like arthritis, hip dysplasia, and injuries can trap dogs in a painful cycle:

🔄PAIN ➡ REDUCED MOVEMENT ➡ MUSCLE LOSS ➡ MORE PAIN.

But there’s hope! 🙏
🔦Laser therapy reduces inflammation and pain at a cellular level, promoting healing.
💦Hydrotherapy builds strength and mobility without putting pressure on sore joints.
Together, they help dogs:
😄MOVE MORE → HURT LESS → LIVE HAPPIER !

🐶If your pup is slowing down, these therapies could be life-changing. If you would like to find out more about the benefits our services can bring to your four-pawed friend, please contact us:

🍂 It’s that time of year again. The nights are drawing in, the temperatures dropping and our dogs are starting to feel cold and arthritic. 🥶

👉🏻 Signs they might be feeling arthritic pain include:
🐾 Stiffness after a walk
🐾 Not wanting to walk or slowing down
🐾 Licking feet
🐾 Behaviour changes
🐾 Hesitating before jumping in the car
🐾 Not going up to greet you

🤔 What can you do to help your furry friend❓

🔦 Laser therapy is a non-invasive, drug-free treatment that helps dogs with arthritis.
🔦 It involves the application of light energy to injured tissue, leading to a cellular response that reduces pain and inflammation, and speeds healing.
🔦 It’s a relaxing, pleasant experience for you pooch

🐾 IS YOUR DOG HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT? ❤️

📣 Dogs can’t tell us they’re in pain, but small changes can speak volumes! 🫣

🔹 Acute pain comes on suddenly — think injury, limping or soreness after an operation.

🔹 Chronic pain develops or persists over time and can be much harder to spot.

👀 Look out for:
🐾 Stiffness after a rest
🐾 Slower walks or lagging behind
🐾 Struggling with stairs or getting up
🐾 Changes in mood or behaviour
🐾 Less interest in play

⚠️ NO CRYING DOES NOT MEAN NO PAIN! Dogs can be experts at hiding discomfort.

💧 How can we help?

🌊 Hydrotherapy supports movement, mobility and muscle strength, while reducing the load on joints.

🔴 Laser therapy helps ease pain, reduce inflammation and supports tissue healing.

🤝 Used together, they can be valuable modalities in a tailored rehabilitation plan to help your dog feel more comfortable and get back to enjoying life.

❤️ Notice the little changes. They could mean a lot. If you suspect your dog is in pain, speak to your vet.

🐾 Did you know excess fat can harm your dog's joints?

🏋️ Extra weight puts pressure on your pup's joints, which then increases risk of arthritis and mobility issues.

✋ BUT, it's not just the additional weight:

Fat cells release inflammatory chemicals making joint pain and stiffness worse, creating a vicious 🔄 cycle of discomfort and inactivity. This leads to reduced mobility, more weight gain and reduced quality of life.

💦 Hydrotherapy can be an effective tool in managing obesity in your pooch. By allowing dogs to exercise in water hydrotherapy reduces the strain on their joints while providing resistance that helps build muscle and burn calories.

💖 Regular sessions can improve cardiovascular health, increase metabolism, and promote weight loss, all while being gentle on the body.

🏋️‍♂️ Hydrotherapy also helps improve flexibility and stamina, supporting long-term weight management in dogs.

🐶 Managing weight from an early age means your dog is less likely to develop joint issues or heart disease.

🐾 A little success story we're so proud of 🐾

The gorgeous Bertie has been coming to us regularly for around a year now, and what a journey it has been. ❤️

When he first came to us, he was incredibly nervous and we knew he needed patience, kindness, and the chance to learn that grooming could feel safe 🚿🥰

We took everything one step at a time, introducing new parts of the groom slowly and only adding something new when he was ready. There were no rushed appointments, just lots of reassurance (and plenty of cuddles!) ❤️🐶

Fast forward to today, and he happily sits through a full de-shed like the very best boy. There are still parts he is unsure of, but every time he comes to see us he is a little less scared! Watching his confidence grow has been so rewarding, and we're incredibly proud of how far he's come. ✨

Well done handsome, you've earned every bit of praise. 🛁✨🐶

If you have a nervous dog who needs a little patience with the grooming process like Bertie, give us a call!

🐾 Elbow Dysplasia & Hydrotherapy

💦 This lovely 6-year-old Labrador can to see us this week. He started limping suddenly earlier in the summer. Eventually, after x-rays and a CT scan, he was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia 😟

He recently had Arthramid injected into the affected joint as part of his treatment plan.

Arthramid is a gel injected into the joint to help improve the joint environment, reduce irritation and support a more comfortable movement.

Hydrotherapy was recommended to complement his treatment. The buoyancy of the water helps reduce the load placed on his elbows while allowing him to exercise, maintain muscle strength and work on his mobility in a controlled environment.

💦 The aim is to keep him moving comfortably, build and maintain muscle, and support his long-term joint health.

Ifyou would like to know more about post-surgical rehabilitation or conservative management for elbow dysplasia, please contact us:

🌟 Breed Spotlight: Swedish Lapphunds & Cruciate Ligament Injuries 🐾

💦 We have only ever treated two Swedish Lapphunds at our hydrotherapy centre. Both had cruciate ligament surgery! Both come from the same family and both of them are recovering at the same time 😱

To reduce the risk of cruciate ligament rupture, you can:

Maintain a healthy weight
Make environmental adaptations at home eg no slippy falls
Reduce ball throwing
Beware of high risk exercise- anything involving movement at speed combined with turning, twisting, jumping and skidding.

Unfortunately some things are harder to manage- such as age related degeneration and genetic disposition.

Treatment can either involve surgery, or for some dogs conservative management is a possibility. This usually involves managed exercise, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and laser therapy.

Ifyou would like to know more about post surgery rehabilitation or conservative management, please contact us:

💦 Hope had bilateral cruciate ligament surgery a few weeks ago and hydrotherapy will help her regain strength and improve her range of movement.

💦 When she came for her first hydrotherapy session a few weeks ago, she absolutely smashed it!

😳 No hesitation - she started walking on the moving treadmill belt like it was a stroll in the park she does every day!

🤔 Not all dogs adapt quite so quickly. But don’t worry, we have a long list of strategies to encourage and cajole even the most reluctant pup to walk:
💧 Gravy bones
💧 Liver Paste
💧 Tennis ball
💧 Squeaky toy
💧 Squeezy cheese
💧 Owner treats
💧 Gran or granddad
💧 The baby
💧 Sibling four-legged
💧 Sibling two-legged

🤔 Sometimes, we even have to ask dog mum or dog dad to go out … often that reduces anxiety and helps the pooch to focus on moving.

So, if your dog is anxious or doesn’t like water, hydrotherapy can still be an option for them.
