What food can you manage for your dog?

It depends on how much of these you have:

Time
Money
Storage
And how important health and nutrition are to you.

Different people have different life situations and different priorities.

If you’d like to know more you might like to look at 3 reels on my page:

- Why dog food might not be the best food for your dog
- Why I do raw food for my dogs, and how I do it.
- How to do away with big smelly poos.

And if you’d like to work with me, I can help you with Natural Dog Behaviour and Natural Dog Health

Change can come very fast..

Change can come very fast
When we humans change:

We can change the way we understand our dog,
The way we think about our dog,
And the way we behave with our dog -

And we can watch the dog’s unwanted behaviour change,
In front of our very eyes!

Because your dog’s behaviour is a response to you.

This means that it is really simple to either:

Set up your new dog and you for a great relationship,
And an easy and peaceful life together.

Or to reset things for the dog and human who’s behaviour has got in a muddle…..

Because this is all I have found to be the problem:
An inter-species muddle!

Remember this:
Your dog is perfect,
And you are perfect.

It’s just that you are (like me),
The wrong species for your dog!

It’s ok though, because when we teach you Dog,
You can bridge the inter-species gap.

We train you, the human how to behave -
So your dog can behave too!

This is the fastest, easiest, and kindest way for change.

It’s easy to get it right…

Make the right choices with what you do with your dog.

Forget about the human concept of correction.

Prevention is the golden rule -

Don’t practise what you don’t want.

Repetition is the other golden rule -

Practise the lovely stuff you DO want.

Don’t worry if it’s got in a muddle -

You can change everything

And get back on the right track.

Look forward to a glorious future together!

And if you would like a hand,

What works and what does not:

WHAT DOES NOT WORK:

Correction!

Or anything we do AFTER the unwanted behaviour:

Words (your dog cant speak human)

Reassurance (your dog does not understand)

Redirecting the behaviour (at most distracts your dog on that occasion)

Reprimand (your dog can’tunderstand)

Consequences - like time out (your dog does not understand cause and effect)

NONE OF THESE WORK BECAUSE THEY ARE AFTER THE EVENT.

Anything we do after the behaviour we don’t want,

Will have allowed the dog to practise the behaviour again!

Your dog will get better and better at the behaviour you don’t want.

And HOWEVER you respond,

You will only be REINFORCING the behaviour pattern.
eg: “ jump up and then Judy barks”

WHAT DOES WORK:

Prevention!

So this is everything you do BEFORE the behaviour could occur.

It means arranging your dog’s life differently

So they cannot practise the behaviours we don’t want.

It’s simple, and it works.

We need to put in the effort to think ahead and both

Avoid situations and triggers

Control the environment

And do different stuff together.

It’s not rocket science:

Prevention, Prevention, Prevention

Hooray!

I can support you both changing your behaviours.

Humans and dogs process trauma differently…

Although a dog will have a body and mind memory
Of a difficult experience,
They will not be thinking about it or re-living that experience.
Neither will they be anticipating a repeat experience.
This is because our dog lives largely in the present.

Humans often hold on to trauma,
We easily re-live, re-member, and ruminate over the past.
We also can imagine futures based on the past -
We anticipate a repetition, we worry and we protect ourselves.

So because dogs are more in the present,
Their present experience is constantly re-wiring their brains,
With today’s experiences gradually
Eclipsing yesterday’s versions of reality.

Here again, it serves everyone for the human
Not to be imagining their dog’s experience
Nor projecting human emotions, thoughts, or psychology
Onto their dogs.

The kindest and most useful thing a human can do
When their dog has had a difficult experience,
Is for the human to:
Take care of the immediate needs of the dog,
Take note of how to practically protect their dog in the future,
Not dwell on the dog’s past trauma,
Be the kind, calm, relaxed leader that shows
That you are taking care of everything,
And that life will carry on as normal,
And everything will be fine,
And is fine in this present moment.

This is the best way you can support your dog.
You can show your dog that:

YOU ARE FINE
THE WORLD IS FINE
AND BY EXTENSION
SO ARE THEY!

Crates are great because…
They can help you set up your dog to succeed.

Some examples of behaviours that can be prevented with rest times in a crate:

1. Going to the toilet in the wrong place (Of course they need lots of toilet time when we take them to the right place)
2. Chewing wires or furniture
3. Jumping up at guests
4. Going on the furniture
5. Patroling the house and barking
6. Etc etc

Some examples of benefits of appropriate rest time in the crate:

1. Calm dog
2. Relaxed dog
3. Off duty dog (as opposed to hyper alert and hyperactive or guarding behaviours)
4. Dog that feels good when you are there and good when you are not there
5. Dog that I am not needing to correct teach or supervise when they are in the crate
6. Dog that get things right when they are in the crate and can chill out
7. Relaxed human (better, kinder leader)
Whatever your dog’s issue, I help people and dogs all over the world, one to one or in group courses.

Comment CRATE if you would like more pointers or might like to work with me.

We are the cause of our dog’s behaviour!

And the best news is that

We are also the cure for our dog’s behaviour!

If you have a REACTIVE DOG

The main problem will be

That your dog believes they have to protect you,

Because they don’t believe that

You are the one who is taking care of everything.

If you have ANXIOUS DOG

The main problem will be

That your dog believes the world is really scary

Because they don’t believe that

You are the one who is taking care of everything.

Both of these behaviours are automatically helped

When we change the relationship we have with our dog:

NO LESS LOVE OF COURSE -

Everything transformed through us stepping up to

DO LOVE IN DOG:

Once you become the

KIND, CALM, CONFIDENT, COMPETENT-IN-DOG
LEADER

THAT YOUR DOG HAS BEEN LOOKING FOR.

You can look forward to what I call

A heavenly partnership,

A relaxed dog,

And a peaceful life together.

Toilet training is easy BUT..

It’s our job to pay attention
It’s our job to deliver
It’s our job to set things up right
For our dog to get it right.

Remember:
Your dog thinks the right thing to do
Is what they always do.

So you need to be really thinking and planning ahead,
So your dog always gets it right
And never has the experience of going to the toilet
Where you don’t want them to.

If they DO go in your home -
It will always be our responsibility,
And the problem is that they would be likely
To go there again!
Because it’s where they went LAST TIME!

So let’s make sure they are always
In the right place at the right time
For all their bodily needs.

Support your dog by
Setting up the right patterns -
Which your dog will be delighted to
REPEAT.

Happy Days!

Repetition - the royal road…

The kindest and easiest way to set up
All the behaviours you would like:

Is to repeat what you do want (lots),
And don’t repeat what you don’t want (ever).

The kindest and easiest way to set up the
Relationship you want:

Is to repeat the behaviours that support
Your loving leadership (lots),

And don’t repeat the behaviours that might
Give your dog the wrong messages
(never, if possible)

If you want to know more,
I can help you know the difference,
And support your reframing of your dog’s life.
