🎆🐾 FIREWORKS PREP: HELP YOUR DOG FEEL SAFE! 🐾🎆

Fireworks season can be a stressful time for our dogs, but a little preparation can make a big difference!

Here are my top tips to help your four-legged family members through the noisy nights.

🐾 SNIFF 👃
Get out in the daylight for a good adventure walk! Think sniffy walks, somewhere a little different and plenty of time to explore at your dog’s own pace. Mental enrichment can be just as valuable as physical exercise.

🎓 LEARN 🧠
A little brain work can help take the edge off the evening. Try some easy training games, scentwork or fun activities your dog enjoys. Keep it positive and don’t overdo it!

🔒 STAY SAFE
• Double up on security: use a well-fitted harness AND collar, with a lead attached to each. This gives you a backup if one connection fails.
• Make sure your garden is secure and check for gaps before letting your dog out.
• Get toilet trips done before dark where possible. If your dog needs out later, accompany them on a lead — even in your own garden.

🍽️ FUEL UP
Offer dinner before the fireworks begin, if possible. A full belly can help them settle.

🎵 SETTLE
Create a cosy, safe space indoors. Get the TV on, and try more than one background sound — classical music on the TV and Taiko drumming on Alexa! 🎶 Keep the volume comfortable and use sounds your dog finds soothing.

🦴 CHEW
Have a little enrichment stash ready! Think stuffed Kongs, familiar chews, lick mats and food puzzles your dog already enjoys.

💊 DON’T FORGET MEDICATION
If your dog struggles with fireworks, speak to your vet well in advance about the options available. If medication has been prescribed, make sure you have it ready and follow your vet’s instructions.

❤️ MOST IMPORTANTLY…
Let your dog choose what helps them feel safe. They might want to hide, stay close to you, have a chew or simply be left in peace. Comforting a frightened dog won’t reinforce their fear — you can absolutely be there for them.

A little preparation, a safe space and plenty of understanding can make fireworks season easier for everyone.

Walk Wise with Absolute Canine

Take your training beyond the training centre and into the real world!
We're excited to introduce our next Absolute Canine Walk Club – designed exclusively for our current and previous Absolute Canine clients.

Join Arlene and Kirsten for a relaxed, supportive group walk where we'll help you put your training into practice in everyday situations.

During the walk we'll cover:
🐶 Navigating encounters with other dogs.
🐶 What to do when an off-lead "friendly" dog approaches.
🐶 Reading your dog's body language.
🐶 Rewarding calm, confident choices.
🐶 Engagement in real-life environments.
🐶 Building your confidence alongside your dog.

This isn't just a group dog walk – it's a guided walk where you can ask questions and continue developing the skills you've already been working on.

📅 Walk: Wednesday 28th October
🕜 Time: 1:30pm (approximately 1 hour)
📍 Location: Eliburn Park, Livingston
Parking available at Livingston Community Football Club, EH54 7EE - this will be our meeting point.

💷 Cost: £15 per dog

We'll be meeting at the car park where there's plenty of parking and ample space to keep comfortable distances from other dogs, making it an ideal place to practise real-life skills.

These walks will run every three weeks, with different locations and training opportunities throughout the year.

Spaces are limited to keep the walks small and ensure everyone receives individual guidance.
