Great advice!

Great advice!

Puppies can be hard work.
Here are 5 Key steps to avoiding puppy problems

1) Choose the right puppy.
Research your breed, make sure it's going to be suitable for your family and lifestyle. Speak to a professional trainer first for advice if you are unsure.
2) Get a puppy, not livestock
Research your breeder, make sure they health test, see the parents, ask about how and where they rear the puppies. Are they following an early neurological stimulation and socialisation program?
3) Be proactive not reactive.
Get your training and socialisation support from a professional from day one. Don't wait till classes or a problem appears, get a home visit or two straight away.
4) Be wary of free advice.
Avoid free advice off Internet forums, groups and self acclaimed experts in the park. When it comes to dog training everyone is an expert and there is alot of bad advice out there. What might have worked for one dog might not work for another, it might even make things worse.
5) Do your homework.
The dog training industry is unregulated and it's a buyer beware market. Make sure your trainer is experienced, skilled, has regulated qualifications or achieved success in their chosen field and use ethical methods.

A difficult day for Salt today.

While we were out on our walk, a dog managed to get out of its house, ran across the road and attacked him.
Salt was on lead and sustained two puncture wounds to his leg, along with some bruising from the bite.
Heโ€™s got pain relief and antibiotics just in case - of course it had to be the leg with the skin graft ๐Ÿ˜ข

As upsetting as it was, it has reinforced an important lesson: if you have a dog that may attack other dogs, always think in terms of at least two layers of safety.
A closed front door is one layer. A baby gate, secure hallway, crate, or another physical barrier is a second.
Management failures happen and you need a back up!

Itโ€™s also worth remembering that this could have ended very differently. If the dog had run towards a child, a smaller dog, or a dog that chose to defend itself, the outcome could have been far worse for everyone involved.

The owners of the dog have been great. Salt and I will just be chilling for the weekend!

Im so sad to share the loss of Hope ๐Ÿ’”

She was one of my dog walking family for many years, full of character and loved by everyone who knew her. She also leaves behind a special connection to my own dog, making her loss feel even closer to home.

She will be so deeply missed.

Thinking of her wonderful family and sending them so much love at this incredibly difficult time. ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿพ

Beautiful Lily was back with us today ๐Ÿ’–

Iโ€™d noticed that she is quite wary of new things and becomes easily overwhelmed, which often showed up as pulling like a train, jumping and generally being a bit manic!

So today, we worked on confidence building and instead of focusing on the leash pulling itself, we clipped on a long line and gave her a bit more freedom. Within about 30 seconds, you could see the change. She visibly relaxed, started checking in with me, happily offered a hand touch, took treats and was able to engage with her environment in a much calmer way.

Our plan now is to build her confidence through Scentwork and pattern games, giving her the skills and reassurance she needs to feel more comfortable in the world around her.

She really is the sweetest girl, and I canโ€™t wait to watch her confidence grow ๐Ÿฅฐ
