Matting & De-Matting Policy
At Pampered Paws, every dog’s comfort, safety and wellbeing is my top priority. I aim to provide a calm, gentle and positive grooming experience for every dog visiting the salon.
💜 Matting & Coat Care
Matting occurs when a dog’s coat becomes tangled and tightly knotted. Severe matting can cause discomfort, restrict movement, pull on the skin and conceal skin irritation.
Where possible, small knots will be gently removed, provided this can be done without causing unnecessary discomfort or stress.
I will not subject any dog to prolonged or painful de-matting.
✂️ Full Shave-Offs
If a dog’s coat is severely matted, a shorter haircut or full shave-off may be necessary for their comfort and welfare.
This may result in a much shorter coat than originally requested.
Removing heavily matted coats requires additional care and can carry an increased risk of irritation, redness, small nicks or revealing pre-existing skin problems.
💷 Additional Matting Charges
Additional charges may apply depending on the severity of matting and the extra time and work
* Moderate matting £15
* Severe matting requiring a full shave-off: £25
These charges are added to the standard grooming price. A short haircut alone does not automatically incur a matting fee.
🐶 Your Dog’s Welfare Comes First
If a dog becomes distressed or uncomfortable, grooming may be paused or stopped.
In cases where matting is particularly severe, painful or close to sensitive areas, veterinary assistance may be recommended.
Following a shave-off, some dogs may experience temporary skin sensitivity or irritation. Owners will be advised of any concerns and appropriate aftercare.
💜 Owner Consent
By agreeing to proceed with grooming, owners acknowledge that:
* Severely matted coats may require clipping very short.
* Additional matting charges will be explained before proceeding.
* Matted coats can conceal skin conditions and increase grooming risks.
* The dog’s safety and welfare will always take priority over the desired hairstyle.
