๐จ RAWHIDEโฆ DO YOU ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT YOUโRE GIVING YOUR DOG? ๐จ
It looks like a harmless dog chew.
Itโs sold in pet shops, supermarkets and bargain stores everywhere.
But rawhide isnโt the same as a natural meat chew. ๐
Soโฆ what actually is it?
Rawhide is made from the inner layer of animal hide. During manufacturing, hides may undergo several stages of cleaning and processing before being cut, shaped, sometimes coloured or flavoured, and turned into those familiar bones and twists.
And that's not our only issue with itโฆ ๐
โ ๏ธ CHOKING RISK
Once chewed, rawhide can become soft and slippery. Dogs may tear off and swallow pieces that are simply too large.
โ ๏ธ BLOCKAGE RISK
Rawhide isn't easily digestible, so swallowed chunks can potentially cause an obstruction in the digestive tract โ which can become a veterinary emergency.
โ ๏ธ IT CAN SWELL & BECOME GUMMY
Rather than crumbling away like some natural treats, chewed rawhide can become soggy, stretchy and difficult to break down.
โ ๏ธ NOT ALL RAWHIDE IS MADE THE SAME
Manufacturing and processing methods vary hugely between products, so it's worth knowing exactly what you're buying and where it came from.
๐พ THAT'S WHY YOU WON'T FIND RAWHIDE AT RUBY SNACKS.
We'd rather fill our stall with things like:
๐ท Pigs' ears
๐ฐ Rabbit ears
๐ Chicken feet
๐ฆ Venison legs
๐ Beef trachea
๐ Dried sprats
๐ฅฉ 100% meat treats
Simple. Natural. No rawhide. โค๏ธ
Because when you're buying your dog a treat, you should know what you're actually giving them.
