- Misty — Our little fighter Misty is now onto her final course of wormers! 🥳🦔

Looking at this beautiful girl today, you’d never know that she arrived with a large, open wound and flystrike. It’s incredible to see just how far she’s come.

Then, just when we thought we had enough on our hands, Misty decided to surprise me with a rather unwelcome collection of internal parasites!

But she’s taken it all in her stride and continues to make fantastic progress.

She just needs to put on a little more weight, complete those final checks, and then she’ll be ready for the best graduation of all…

- Flo & Minny — Graduation Day Is Getting Closer! 🥳🤎

Our gorgeous girls have finally reached their graduation weight!

This year, we’ve kept our orphaned hoglets in care a little longer than we usually would. With the extreme heatwaves we’ve experienced, finding enough natural food has been incredibly challenging for wildlife.

Rather than rushing their release, we’ve given these little ones the extra time they need to grow, strengthen and build up those all-important reserves.

That little bit of extra weight can make such a difference, giving them the best possible start when they head back out into the wild 🤎🦔

- Tulip — Another of this year’s little warriors 🥹

It’s been a long, bumpy road for our beautiful Tulip, but this girl has faced every hurdle head-on.

There were times when it really was touch and go. We simply didn’t know what the future would hold for her, and she gave us plenty of sleepless nights along the way.

But once again, these precious prickles have shown us just how incredibly resilient they can be.

After lots of intensive care, procedures at the vets and plenty of medication to tackle a trio of internal parasites, Tulip has finally reached a very special milestone…

She’s graduated to her big girl hutch!

From arriving on the rescue doorstep, to keeping the head servant on her toes, she’s come such a long way.

Now she’s onto her final graduation checks before she can return to where she belongs — back in the wild.

- HEDGEHOG HEROES — THERE’S STILL TIME TO HELP ONE OF OUR 2026 ORPHANS 🌿

This summer has been incredibly challenging for wildlife, and we’ve been inundated with orphaned hoglets.

We’ve worked long days to give these tiny, vulnerable lives the care they need to grow strong enough for the wild 🥹

And now… they’re graduating! 🌿🦔

Four of our precious orphans have moved to Bliss Gate Nature Explorers for their soft release — the final stepping stone before they return home to the wild.

Here, we step back and let them become hedgehogs again.

🌙 Learning to be nocturnal
🪹 Building nests
🍂 Exploring outdoors
🦔 Developing those all-important natural instincts

All while we make sure they’re ready to leave us behind — even if they’d quite happily continue their 24-hour all-inclusive buffet!

- Inspector Gus — August Inspection Report 🐾🕵🏻‍♂️🐈‍⬛

It’s the last Monday of the month, which can only mean one thing… inspection time at Henbrook Hedgehog Rescue!

And frankly… standards appear to be slipping. 😾

My human servant has been far too distracted lately because apparently she’s having a baby! Which means I shall soon have to take on even MORE responsibility around Henbrook HQ 🙄👶

Meanwhile, my apprentice Rusty appears to have misunderstood the meaning of “apprentice”. His latest contribution to the rescue has been… absolutely nothing.

Whilst I conduct my thorough inspections, Rusty has been found:

✔️ Sleeping on the job
✔️ Supervising from the garden
✔️ Interrupting cleaning duties
✔️ Perfecting his loaf technique
✔️ Generally avoiding all responsibilities

With the human servant preparing for maternity leave and Henbrook HQ soon going into hibernation mode, there is clearly a lot to organise.

Prince Eric is growing fast and absolutely loving his all-inclusive stay here at Henbrook Hedgehog Rescue. And somehow, he’s also managed to become the cleanest hog currently at Henbrook HQ!

It won’t be long before this gorgeous boy is ready for his graduation. He’ll be heading back to his finder, where he can continue the next chapter of his journey — back where he belongs 🤎🦔

- Meet Dottie — Our little tick magnet 🥺

Dottie came into Henbrook HQ after being spotted on camera with an excessive burden of ticks, particularly across her face. On closer inspection, it was sadly much worse than I’d first realised.

After several sessions to carefully remove the adult ticks, we discovered she was also absolutely peppered with hundreds, if not thousands, of tiny seed ticks.

Seed ticks are far too numerous and tiny to remove individually, and attempting to do so would be incredibly stressful for such a little hedgehog. Instead, Dottie has been given appropriate medication, and thankfully they’re slowly dropping away.

A heavy tick burden can sometimes be a sign that a hedgehog is already unwell, as ticks are often attracted to compromised animals. Thankfully, Dottie’s samples have been clear so far, so it’s possible she may simply have encountered a tick nest.

She’s being closely monitored here at Henbrook HQ, and we’re keeping everything crossed that she’ll only need a short stay with us before she’s ready to head back home 🤎🦔

Another month has somehow flown by, and before we head into September, we wanted to say a huge, heartfelt thank you for all of your incredibly kind messages following our special news 🥰🤰🏻

Here’s a little insight into the running costs of Henbrook Hedgehog Rescue this month:

🧤 Rescue essentials — gloves, blue roll & puppy pads, puppy mousse, baby cat biscuits, supplements & Oralade: £269.48

💉 Medication — antibiotics, pain relief, fluids, ringworm treatments & wormers: £111.67

🏥 Vet fees & prescriptions: £139.50

Total: £520.74 🤎

It’s full tummies.
It’s pain relief for a little body that hurts.
It’s medication helping fight infection and parasites.
It’s fluids for a dehydrated hoglet.
It’s veterinary care when something goes wrong.

And ultimately, it’s giving a tiny hedgehog the chance to heal, thrive and return to the wild 🤎🦔

This summer, we’ve teamed up with our foster friends at Bliss Gate Nature Explorers to give some of our 2026 orphans a very special stepping stone on their journey back to the wild.

Last year, with guidance from Henbrook Hedgehog Rescue, Louisa helped rehabilitate three hoglets found at Bliss Gate HQ.

This year, they’re helping us again! Four of our precious orphans have now graduated to Bliss Gate Nature Explorers, where they can continue growing, developing their natural behaviours and preparing for the day they return to the wild 🌿🤎🦔
