An incredible journey back to the wild

A few days in Lampedusa, surrounded by incredible people, dedicated to one shared mission: helping sea turtles. 🐢💙
I had the opportunity to spend a few days with Daniela and the amazing team at Lampedusa Sea Turtle Rescue, working alongside them to help with surgeries and the treatment of injured sea turtles. During this time we also collaborated with a team from Taiwan. We shared experiences and knowledge through surgeries, presentations and thoughtful discussions. We brought together different experiences, techniques and perspectives. With two successful turtle releases and a third to follow very soon after all having surgery it was a very amazing trip.

Wobbles presented to us with some difficulties. Treatment plans were put in place and she was responding well. She recently had some more difficulties and so further investigations were warranted to get to the bottom of the cause. A massive thank you to for their help. Remember that all wildlife deserve the same level of care as our domestic patients as many of them come into difficult as a direct or indirect result of human activity. We will await the results from the specialist and see if there is anything more that can be done to help her

🦔 Wildlife Hospital Update! 🐾
It’s been a busy time at the hospital, with lots of prickly, fluffy and feathered patients coming through our doors! 💚
From hedgehogs needing a helping hand to a whole host of other wildlife in need of care, we have been working hard to give every patient the best chance of recovery and return to the wild.
In this Reel, we’re sharing a little update on some of the animals we’ve had with us recently — including our adorable hedgehog patients! 🦔✨

A little round-up from an amazing nesting season in Cabo Verde 🇨🇻🐢🌊
From delivering a whale stranding response course, to rescuing turtles, supporting nesting females and experiencing the highs and challenges of conservation work in the field.
So many incredible moments, plenty of hard work, and memories I won’t forget.
Another season gone but some very exciting news to come! 💙🐋🐢

🐢🌊 Every turtle deserves to find its way home.
In Cabo Verde, young sea turtles can sometimes become disoriented and lost on their journey to the ocean. There are a number of reasons this can happen — including artificial lighting from hotels and other buildings, which can draw hatchlings away from the natural glow of the sea.
When we find a lost turtle, we carefully rescue it and return it safely to the beach, giving it the best chance to make its way into the ocean. 🌙➡️🌊
Small actions can make a huge difference. By reducing unnecessary beachfront lighting and protecting nesting areas, we can help more turtles find their way home.
Protect the beaches. Protect the turtles. 💙🐢

Tiny sea turtles emerge from the sands of Cape Verde and make their first incredible journey towards the ocean. 🌊
But this isn’t goodbye…
Years from now, the females will return to the same beach where they were born to lay their own eggs. 🏝️

🌊🐢 Are you coming back… or are you new here?
In Cabo Verde, we’re giving nesting turtles a tiny piece of technology with a big purpose: a microchip. 💚
Each chip gives us a unique ID, helping researchers discover whether a turtle returning to the beach is a familiar face coming back to nest again—or a new turtle joining the population.
