Did you know our tortoises are very ticklish! 🐢

Their shell isn't dead like a lot of people think, it's actually covered in thousands of nerve endings and is incredibly sensitive, even though it's made from keratin, the same material as your hair and nails.

Our tortoise Carl is very ticklish and if you tickle the back of his shell while he's wandering past during his morning enclosure clean, he'll actually lie down and let you carry on, he genuinely seeks it out.😅

Just like us, every tortoise here has their own personality, and Carl's is definitely one of the more affectionate ones🐢

Another day where Ernie the Emu is living his best life🤌🏻

Did you know Emus can turn a full 180 degrees at speed by dropping one wing to the floor and raising the other. By the time a predator like a dingo has turned to follow, Ernie could already be 30 yards further away💨

Come visit Ernie at Chew Valley Animal Park, no need to book, just turn up!

Meet Lola and Amelia, our Bactrian camels here at Chew Valley Animal Park 🐫

Both girls are 18 years old and are actually rescues.

While camels originally come from the Middle East, they've since been used all over the world, helping people cross deserts and dry lands for thousands of years.

Something about camels that surprises most people, is it's not water stored in their humps, it's a specialised fat. That fat is what allows them to go weeks without food, and as it breaks down, it actually converts into water too💦

Camels can smell water from over six miles away, and when they find it, they can drink an incredible 140 litres in one go🤯

If you'd like to come and meet Lola and Amelia for yourself, they're the first thing you'll see when you visit Chew Valley Animal Park 🐫

Head to the 🔗 in our bio to plan your visit or just turn up!💚
