Mutleys Dog Training At Mutleys we run small group classes and one to one training, using only positive reward based methods. Come and join us, it's fun and it works!

Established in Bristol since 2005, we run small group classes and use only reward-based training techniques, to ensure that your dog learns in a fun and positive environment. Mutleys dog training classes take place at our venues in Clifton (off Whiteladies Road), Frampton Cotterell (Crossbow House) and Hanham / St George (Bryants Hill). We are also available for one-to-one training. Check out our website for more about us as well as details of upcoming classes:http://mutleysdogtraining.co.uk/

Grass seed!
Ah so yesterday my lovely spaniel had to be taken to an emergency vet appointment as she was shaking her head, scratching her left ear and holding her head to one side.
Today she was sedated and they pulled this 2cm grass seed out of her ear, she’s been asleep since I got her home!
Be vigilant everyone the grass seeds are barbed and spiked and go in, but cannot fall out!

Ok so the next few days are going to be even hotter than the May heatwave! With temperatures of 35plus forecast, peaking around 5pm each day 🥵☀️
Your dogs do not need to go out for walks in these extreme conditions, pavements are extremely hot and will burn there paw pads.
All evening classes will be cancelled this week, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (unless there’s a massive change in the forecast!) I will email you all on a class by class basis.
Better to keep your pups safe in this heat!
If your taking them to the river for a cooler walk be careful of doing too much, dogs can ingest a lot of water if retrieving items from it over and over and become very ill!
Take care of your pups and yourselves! 🐾🐾🐾

Pup pulling on the lead still - stop going out and just allowing the same thing to happen day after day. Make changes to your equipment and your routine. Choose some lead walking specific equipment (I like collar and lead) and go out and train on it, ensure you reward the loose lead, focused walking and make sure there is no forward movement on a tight lead. As soon as the lead goes tight stop or change direction (depends where you are as to what is easier).
NEVER use the lead walking specific equipment for a walk where you are not fully committed to training, move to a harness or different attachment so it is clear to the dog what equipment they are on not ambiguous!
In the early days of lead walk training have NO destination, walk back and forth on the same piece of land - this gives pup the chance to learn how to walk on a lead without constant new smells and environment, find an quiet lane or and empty car park and practice.
Start with a 5 minute practice, then switch equipment or jump in the car to go somewhere they can be free roaming. As the weeks go on they should be able to walk nicely for longer so build up to 10 minutes, 15 minutes, start venturing out of the car park/boring side road and get some nice walking where you need it.
Please stop going out doing the same thing every day if it is not working! Make some changes and you will get there.

We have spaces in our Plus classes available if you wanted to get out and do some fun classes with your older puppy/dog. Classes build a bond, help you troubleshoot and work on things that need polishing or practicing. They give you the chance to work around distractions and make friends with other owners.
Spaces available Wednesday and Thursday 820pm in Redland, and Monday 12noon in Canford Park.
Come along and have some fun!

Today is a really special day! It’s Mutleys 20th anniversary! 20 years ago today I ran my first puppy class in my hall in Clifton with just three little pups! We quickly grew to two full nights a week, then new locations and franchises. It’s been the most rewarding job and I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve made amazing friends, I’ve run on a lot of recommendations and a lot of returning clients! One of those very first clients in that first puppy class is still with me today with his new dogs!
Thank you all for recommending Mutleys and coming back again and again!

Please can you as my clients please this petition. As dog trainers we are being given four weeks notice to get a licence in place to use Bristol parks for training and paid activities. I have previously tried to get a permit to work in Canford park but had no response! I am happy to pay! BUT the council are asking us to pay per green space….. if you have ever met me on the downs/ St Andrews park/horfield common/stoke lodge/Victoria park/st George park/ Redland green under these new rules this WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE
I would only be able to afford a licence to work at Canford park. So you would have to come to me. Fine if you drive or your issues are not based in the woods!
If you have a dog walker you may loose them as they have to choose the one park they want to walk in or face multiple thousands of pounds in fees. We do not earn enough to find £1500-3000 a year for this!
We also need to have first aid training… a totally reasonable request! What is not reasonable is putting this to us with no notice and no consultation and expecting us to have £500 and first aid training within three weeks with no time to plan! Come on Bristol fight back! This covers your PT/ outside yoga/ Nordic walkers etc too… costs will be passed onto clients and businesses will cease to run! Being outside in green spaces and joining clubs aids mental health!
Lastly this fee is disproportionate to other councils who charge £200-300 for multiple parks inc London!
Please sign and get this reduced to multiple locations and a more reasonable fee either a notice period.
If you can write to local councillors even better!
Thank you!
